Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (22631.4751 - using GRC InControl)
Hello all,

As most I was avidly looking forward to 24H2. I set up for a clean install (backing everything up). However, once I did the install and got drivers and apps installed (no issues) I started getting BSODs (critical_process_died) multiple times per hour.

I went back to 23H2 as this is a machine that I can't afford to be down for hours or days with.

So, I'm at a point where I need to ensure that 24H2 won't get installed -- is there a way to block 24H2 from installing?

When I get to a point where I'll have time to troubleshoot in detail, I'll reinstall and see what the issue is and attempt to fix it. Note - I've already gone back to 23H2 and I don't have the time or the files to go back and see what the issue was right now.

Since you have the Pro and not Home edition, you can use an option in the tutorial below to specify a TargetReleaseVersion of 23H2 to stay on that version until it reaches end of service.

The dreaded "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED" BSOD is extremely likely because of an issue with HMB. Looks like your Western Digital SSDs, most likely use HMB, instead of a dedicated cache.

Thanks all for the all the info, especially for InControl.

I've upgraded that drives firmware, but holding off on an upgrade for a bit until I do a full backup of that drive.
