Solved boot up time

I'll try again, because I am sure it was longer than 8.1 sec.

Again I shut the PC down, booted up, but it states the same thing, last BIOS time 8.1 sec.

That's just the BIOS processing time it looks like. Obviously, your specific BIOS and settings process faster than others.

I gather now that "boot-up" time does not include loading the apps, only the time it takes for the Windows screen to come on.

Yes, all the crap you're loading in the background keeps happening. After the desktop comes up, the system tray tasks keep populating for a spell.

If that's all you do with your computer, that makes no sense. Looking in file explorer just under disk C are you sure it doesn't say 1.72 tb FREE of 1.86 tb.

Yes, you are right @Joop, that's the time it takes till windows screen comes on, but with "powercfg /hibernate" set to on apps loading time is very short, check it, also external Hard Drives do slow down the booting time. JFO my start up time in task manager is 9.2 sec.

Yes, you are correct, it does say 1.72 TB free from 1.86 TB

My timing of the startup time was including all the crap but as well including the batches I execute at start. For instance I always make a copy (to a zipped, date-named backup) of the Firefox userprofile folder at system startup.

And while that only finishes succesfully when Firefox is not yet active, I start Firefox at the end of that batch so I can start using it as soon as the FF window appears. For some reason those batches at start come almost as the last thing in the startup sequence, so my timing is until I can use FF. Don't need to get tricks for changing the order, know I could do that via task scheduler, but it's good like it is.

In that way I have max. 7 backups of the FF userprofile. Has helped me several times when FF was (for unknown reasons) not functioning correctly.

That's different, I haven't actually timed that way. I have a bunch of stuff that loads in the system tray, but I don't worry about it, I just start working when I get to the desktop.

I have an automatic daily backup that backs up all my data drive including my Thunderbird profile. My automated backup also backs up the Windows drive once a week. Truthfully, I've never had issues with Firefox profile corruption, so I don't make any special effort for that. I do want to keep all my mail archives, so the Thunderbird profile backup is key, it's a few gigabytes now.

Truthfully, I'm kinda' anal about backup, I have two large USB drives that get a complete image of all my files and archives every other week. I alternate between the two, so I always have an off-line dataset that's less than two weeks old, and even if one drive dies, I still have one that's less than a month old. Finally, I have complete weekly data images to my NAS with 8TB mirrored drives.

There are only two kinds of computer users, those that have lost data and those that are going to.

I'm trying to keep from losing any more.
