Hi folks I have been reading another thread when trying to troubleshoot an issue that I have been having for around 3 months, I have tried everything I can think of and think my issue is hardware related and think it is time to ask for help
as I think my PC is going to turn into Triggers broom with the changes I keep trying!
I will try and summarise as this has been a long journey, but please let me know if you need more info! Also full build config is in my profile, but if you would prefer me to put here for ease let me know.
Gaming PC is 4 years old and had no issues what so ever until around 3 months ago when I had BSOD playing Elite Dangerous. (Other games as well since including, Isonzo, Verdun, Deep Rock Galactic and Crusader Kings 3). Sometimes I have BSOD, and sometimes just a straight crash. I have used Event Viewer and Blue Screen Screen View but there does not seem the same thing causing the crash. The most common BSOD error I am having is Event 41 Kernel-Power, which I think just means the computer unexpectedly shut down. Weird thing is after a number of crashes, the system can become stable for the remainder of the evening (although this is never a certain number, could be once or could be 5 times or more!)
Steps I have done so far (after each stage, I have still had the same issues as reporting now) :
1. Ensured Security updates and driver updates were all good for motherboard, CPU, GPU and all peripherals. Also tried rolling back the GPU driver to a known safe one and used DDU to get rid of any potential drivers causing issues.
2. Did sfc/scannow and DISM (minor errors corrected), ran Windows Memory Check (no errors)
3. Fresh Install of Windows 11 Pro 22631 on new NVME drive
4. Changed Thermal Paste on CPU and used compressed air to clean dust from inside PC.
5. Monitoring Hardware using CPUID, HWInfo, GPU-Z and Speccy, temps normal when I can play games. Used Heaven Benchmark and Superposition to stress test GPU (No increase in temp noticed, GPU and CPU good), checked seating of GPU, RAM etc in case. Ran Memtest86 for 1 cycle (no errors)
*** Crashing increased and started happening when not playing games but doing other tasks.
6. Brought new PSU upgrading from a 650 to an 850 v2 Gold.
*** Stability improved but still has same symptoms.
7. Stress testing with Prime95 which leads to the testing being halted after a couple of minutes, temps looked good. Also has caused a crash before when running it another time.
So, now I am not sure if it is CPU, RAM or motherboard and could really do with some help, thanks for reading!
Andy
