Hello,
To understand how embarrassing Microsoft is, I leave below a computer configuration that meets all security criteria TMP 2.0, Secure Boot and two video cards, including the processor is checked as ok. But God forbid it's an I7-6500U CPU that works perfectly. Microsoft doesn't feel like seeing old processors. Will I not be able to install Windows 11 on this computer?
Microsoft wants us to generate mountains of waste (garbage) to buy new technology, well why, what makes Windows 11 so big that it can't work properly on this computer.
Yeah, I understand. I have 4 desktops in my house, 1 for me, 1 for wife, 1 for son and 1 for daughter. My daughter is a light user, so she got my son's hand me down when he upgraded. She is running an i5-6500 which is running Windows 10 just fine.
I also have a pair of Intel NUC's that I typically use for playing and testing with. They are both running Core i5-5250u's Thus far they have been great for Windows 10, and Linux Machines. They have UEFI, they have TPM support, they just don't have a new enough processor for Windows 11.
I'm not ready yet to reconfigure my desktop or my wife's desktops with Windows 11, so I plan to stay on Windows 10 here for a while. I wanted something to really dig into Windows 11 with, so I invested in a small Beelink mini-pc (just like my Intel NUC's), it just happens to have a Core i5-8279u CPU...which does qualify for Windows 11 support.
End of the day....i'm not too bothered that neither my daughters PC, or my 2 Intel NUC's can be upgraded to 11. I still have 4 more years of support for Windows 10 on these devices. It's highly likely in 4 years, I will either be off them or they will be close to end of life. For my Intel NUC's, I can still use them for Linux and that is what I intend to do with both of them since buying the Beelink mini-pc.
I don't see enough radical change from 10/11 which leads me to believe in any way that driver manufacturers or software developers are going to be releasing anything that is Windows 11 only...so I don't think there is any real necessity for me having to upgrade.
I don't think lots of people are going to be so compelled to feel like they have to use Windows 11 that they are going to fill landfills with old equipment. If history has taught me anything, people will just keep chugging along with their XP machines, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 machines until they die. at this forum, we are enthusiasts and we like to play. Other people just see their computer as an appliance and they don't have a strong desire to change much if they can avoid it.
So, end of the day...I understand the frustrations, but they don't really bother me.
PS. It may be possible to still clean install WIndows 11 in an unsupported state on non-supported hardware. If that's the case, maybe all of our problems will be eliminated. However, if it comes at the cost of no windows updates, or BSOD's...then it's going to be no-go for me.
