Can no longer drag & drop photos to anywhere

That sounds to me like the entire problem is with Affinity or a Windows component that it calls up such as a dll.
I suggest you ask Affinity Support about the problem.
Except that just before upgrading, everything worked perfectly. Plus, I had to do a registry tweak to get drag & drop to work at all; and then it was only with MS products such as Paint and Photos. I can ask Affinity about it, but I have my doubts. :-)

Open with should always be available.
Not with images on the Web.

Please post a screenshot of Open with not being available in File explorer. It should not matter where you have got the images from.
I have the feeling that we are talking at cross-purposes.

Sorry, this whole thing has not been about dragging pictures from web browsers, has it?
I thought we were discussing dragging images from folders in File explorer.

This whole thing has been about not being able to drag images into image editing applications - from anywhere.
But since you said that "Open with" should always be available, I addressed that particular statement with mentioning Web images.

The only reason I brought up "Open with" was when I discovered I could use it to bring images into apps as a workaround to make dragging work.

Issue Resolved (far as I know):

I went ahead and reinstalled Affinity Photo, and it now works, even when dragging from Web pages. I didn't reverse the registry tweak I did earlier, and not going to, just in case. However, with that plus the reinstall, the issue is resolved.

Hopefully if anyone else runs into this, they'll have the same result.

Thanks for everyone's input on this. (y)

It's too bad the ability to edit posts is so short, because you can ignore my previous one.

After a reboot, it's broken again....

True but the browser may have a choice of Copy Image which then can be pasted into a program, Edge and Firefox do.

I'm not going to speculate on the ability to drag images directly from the web directly into a desktop application.

However...
as I stated previously, I rarely use drag n drop to open items..., but I might now! :p
The QTTabBar Enhacement Suite is one I find to be extremely versatile and absolutely indispensable!
You can virtually work on everything from inside Explorer!

No can do. I'm using Edge right now, and tried doing that (and I did know about 'Copy image' :-) ), and no go in Affinity.
The upgrade really did break things in this regard. I used to be able to do all the options with getting images into the any window from any window, but not now. It's severely limited.
