Solved Cannot create task in Task Scheduler

Hello everyone, I've encountered a troublesome issue and I'm expecting somebody to help me.

I wanted to create a UAC whitelist for trusted software(such as Everything, AutoHotkey) to avoid the annoying UAC window. And I found a way using task scheduler. Here's my procedure.

I'm in Administrators group and I opened the Task Scheduler as Administrator.

I turned on the option "Run only when user is logged on" and "Run with highest privileges" and set the option "Configure for" to "Windows 10"(For there's no Windows 11).

Then I added an action starting a program(Take Everything as an example.)

This's the 4th page.

And when I clicked "OK"(in the image is "确定“), it asked me for password.

I log in the computer with my Microsoft account so I don't remember that I've set any password. So I tried my PIN and Microsoft account password, which failed unexpectedly.

So now I'm at the end of my wits.
Additionally, if I create a new folder in Task Scheduler, I'll receive a warning too.

But the folder is created if I click "OK" and refresh.
I've tried my best to search through the Internet but since my English is not good(You see, I'm a Chinese actually), I couldn't find any solution. So I've to post my issue on the forum to ask for help. I hope I didn't do anything wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, and welcome to the Forum.

There is a solution to your question involving the Windows Registry. If you are confident in using the Registry and program like RegEdit, you may proceed.

The default is to require a password for a scheduled task. However you may disable the default by altering the following Registry key:
Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Lsa
Locate limitblankpassworduse
Change the value from "1" to "0".
Then check the "Run only if logged on" box in the scheduled task.

Thanks. However I find that the value of "LimitBlankPasswordUse" was already 0. Then I restart the computer, repeat the procedure and get the same result.

I do not know why you are seeing the UAC prompt so often. Maybe you or your computer has changed the UAC behaviour setting, and getting asked to provide passwords at UAC prompt, or, maybe file permissions have been changed for the selected programs. Because I think it is abnormal to get a UAC prompt to run a desktop application such as AutoHotKey or Everything - but, I do not use those programs, so I am only guessing.

Make sure it is set to (default) Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer.

It's set to default surely. Some scripts written in AutoHotkey that I can ensure security will raise UAC prompt. Besides, some tools such as Right-click menu management in my anti-virus software Huorong will raise UAC prompt too. These are some cases, but do not cover all. So I need to make a UAC white list that not only relieve my hands but also prevent some softwares from doing something bad.

What's more, I think why my PIN or Microsoft account password isn't the password it asks(or I have not relevant permission, but why. I think I should have the permission to create a task as an administrator) is the main issue. I've tested my PIN in my computer and my Microsoft account passoword in Microsoft – Cloud, Computers, Apps & Gaming. Are there any other codes can be the password? So the Implementation of UAC whitelist could be a nice alternative of this post thread, but it does not solve the issue at it's root.

How many User Accounts do you have on your computer, and how many User Accounts are Standard Users, and how many are Administrator accounts?
You should be able to enter the name and password of any administrator account of the computer.

This is my personal computer. As a result, there is only one user account on my computer as Administrator account. If I've misunderstood you, please tell me!

Have you tried leaving the Password box blank, and just select "OK" ?

I've tried the step in the tutorial. Howevr I fail in step 10 because of the unknown password issue mentioned above, which the tutorial doesn't include its solution. Do you mean that I should reply and give my feedback in that post?

Can you please check that the computer's "Admin approval mode" is set to default?
Open Local Security Policy ("secpol.msc")
Expand\navigate to Local Policies\Security Options\ from the left pane.
Select User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account policy from the right pane.
Select the Local Security Setting tab.
What is the setting? Enabled or Disabled? (Default is Disabled.)

The setting is undefined(neither enabled nor disabled), weird.

If you're signed in to your account that's an administrator, you usually do not have to enter a password using the exact steps below.

Of course, the elevated shortcut created from below cannot be used by any other account.

I didn't get you. Could you explain detailedly?

My account is an administrator(there's only one account in my computer) and my UAC prompt doesn't require password input. Instead, I need to click "OK" which I'm struggling to bypass it.

Usually, using the elevated shortcut for the task created in the tutorial will run as administrator with a UAC prompt.
