After BSOD my laptop a Huawei relativlely recent Amazon renewed asquisition (well a year ago) wont system restor, won't reset and wont boot from USB.

In the BIOIS it says booting from USB enabled but in the BIOS Boot manager the option isn;t there to select.

It's beginning to look like the first time I'll have used a computer shop in 27 years of computing.

Trial and error steps:

1) Attempt to open command prompt in Windows Recovery Environment (RE)

2) Attempt to boot a fresh bootable flash drive that was tested on another windows computer

3) Remove all RAM modules and reseat

4) If there is more than one RAM module then reseat only one at a time

5) Attempt to boot a Sea Tools flash drive

6) Move the drive into a HD enclosure > test on another computer using Sea Tools Long generic test

7) Check the owners manual for applicable F keys:

From what I read on Huawei, it uses standard F12 key at boot to enter the boot menu. (Hit f12 as soon as you see the flash screen during boot) From the menu there you can select your Windows install usb drive or Seatools boot drive as the boot device.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
The above idea to boot to F10 allowed me to reinstall windows so up and running now thanks. Not too worried about loosing all files and programs as I use this to run my telescope and just need about a dozen programs reinstalling.

Thanks again.

No. On Huawei devices...
F12 is to enter the BIOS.
F2 is to open the Boot Menu.

To access the Boot Menu, you need to gently spam the F2 key, (on Huawei devices), very early in the boot process.

The Boot Menu is outside the BIOS, but can be accessed at early boot.
Mine looks like this...

image1.png

You can also enter the BIOS from the Boot Menu.
At the very bottom of the Boot Menu (at least on my motherboard), Enter Setup will take you to the BIOS.
I always use ASUS motherboards, so I'm not sure that "Enter Setup" is listed on all motherboard Boot Menus.

On another pc, install Macrium Reflect (trial version is fine) ands create a Rescue USB drive from its menus.

Boot from it on your pc, and select link "fix Windows boot problems".
