I just asked Copilot how many five-letter and six-letter words there are in current English, and the figures amount to roughly three times as many sixes as fives. I think we're all growing tired of the fives, because in 8,000 posts in the thread, we've used a great many of them, and keep coming back to ones we've already used. We've simply exhausted the supply.

It does depend on how many five letter words there actually are rather than relative numbers. I have an answer from co-piolot that says "There are approximately 158,000 five-letter words in the English language" that leaves about 150,000 to go. Co-pilot also says "There are approximately 768 five-letter words in the English language" so I think co-pilot has absolutely no idea. As it is "AI" I think it just makes up answers and isn't to be trusted on anything of this sort. I read a co-pilot answer this morning which said that cardboard was a principal component of cucumber. So yeah, this is all in its infancy. I think the thing is to go from the last post and try not to use a solution that is too recent. I think it's just supposed to be a bit of fun and if it isn't we stop.

Completely agreed. BTW, I got that large number from Copilot, but it was just a mathematical check on how many permutations of the 26 letters are possible, not how many are actually used in current English. When I got the Absolute Imbecile (AI) to check the number actually in use, the number came up araound 8,500, which is about how many posts we have in the five-letter word thread to date.

I've told John (@z3r010) what we've planned, and fully expect to hear from him that he doesn't give a royal d*mn what we do in the Chillout. I've also suggested that he close the five-letter version, the way he closes LOTPW threads when they get too long, and we'll have to wait and see what he says about that.
