Accessibility Change Mouse Pointer Style, Color, and Size in Windows 11

Pointer_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to change mouse pointer style, color, and size for your account in Windows 11.

The mouse pointer, which is sometimes referred to as the cursor, is a bitmap that specifies a focus point on the screen for user input with the mouse.

You can change the mouse pointer style, color, and size to make it easier to see in Windows 11.

Your mouse pointer settings are saved to the two registry keys below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Cursors

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Accessibility

Contents

  • Option One: Change Mouse Pointer Style, Color, and Size in Settings
  • Option Two: Change Mouse Pointer Scheme in Control Panel

Change Mouse Pointer Style, Color, and Size in Settings

1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on Accessibility on the left side, and click/tap on Mouse pointer and touch on the right side. (see screenshot below)

Hello mate, :-)

Are you making any theme changes that could be causing this to revert back?

Does using option one stick for you?

Hello Shawn.

The issue is that things seem to be happening at random. I try to change the pointer with Option One and the cursor will increase in size later and seems to ignore the setting I have made in Control Panel. Point being, Settings overrides Control panel even if I don't make any changes in Settings. I have Windows 11 21H2 if that makes any difference.

Btw, have you had any success in setting up this forum with tenforums where the email contains the link to the comment that it is referring to?

If you are signed in with a Microsoft account, turn off Remember my preferences below as a test to see if it may be syncing these settings from one of your other devices causing the change.

In addition, you can try this below to prevent changes to your theme from changing mouse pointers.

This was set to 1 and I changed it to 0 and may have been the problem, but will have to wait and see.

Fingers crossed.

I took a better look at a possible theme problem and it appears there was one. Cursor was set to "Magnified" and I kept changing it to "Windows Default (Large) in Control Panel; changed it in the theme.

I'm configuring a new computer, and I've set the mouse the way I want it, but this isn't being honored until I log in. How do I change the "no specific user yet" screen to match?
