Apps Change Snipping Tool Theme in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to change the Snipping Tool app theme to light mode, dark mode, or use system setting for your account in Windows 11.

The Snipping Tool app includes a built-in screen recorder and allows you to quickly take and annotate screenshots, photos and other images with your pen, touch, or mouse and save, paste or share with other apps.

You can select to use a light, dark, or system setting app theme for the Snipping Tool app.



Here's How:

1 Open the Snipping Tool app. (see screenshot below)

2 Click/tap on the See more (3 dots) button, and click/tap on Settings. (see screenshot below)

3 Under Appearance, click/tap on App theme to expand it open. (see screenshots below)

4 Under App theme, select (dot) Light, Dark, or Use system setting (default) for what you want.

5 You will see your theme change applied the next time you open the Snipping Tool app.

Thank you - somehow I opted to change the default snipping tool setting from rectangular to free form - I cannot now see how to change the default back to rectangular - please advise - thank you.

Hello Andrew, :alien:

That would be normal when you use the keyboard shortcut to take a screenshot with the Snipping Tool.

You'll need to open the Snipping Tool app itself from Start to see the full window.

Sorry. It looks like I misunderstood.

I'm not aware of a way to select which option is default. It appear to use the last used option by default.

Thanks for trying - I recall once getting an option to choose - but it is stuck on that and I cannot see how to unchoose that option - but it is a very little issue

Are you not able to select a different screenshot mode on the Screen Snipping bar in your screenshot?

It's no bother at all. It would be nice to have a default setting for it though.
