Classic Notepad vs UWP Notepad


Is the same version number used for both? This is my default:

The replace functionality in the new Notepad is buggy. If you use Replace (Ctrl+H), type something into the top field, then tab down to the next field, the old value isn't highlighted to overtype like in the old Notepad or any other text editor that I've used.

Also, when you click the Replace button, it doesn't replace the word. It only highlights it. The Replace All button works, but in a text file with lots of characters, my entire text file goes blank temporarily. It appears that you've lost everything, but once closing the Replace dialog, the data returns. Well, at least for me it does most times. But if you read the Microsoft Community post below, it can be worse.
Be careful if you're using the new Notepad and the Replace functionality. Keep backups or use another text editor, or both.

Apart from the functionality, the padding is about three times too large. Half the amount of padding would still be too much.

I haven't tested this, but I've seen it mentioned that if you go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features and uninstall Notepad, you'll get the old one back.

Classic notepad. The UWP notepad does not fit the appearance of the other programs.

I even usually have ApplicationFrameHost.exe banned unless I need some UWP app, like Settings. Because they take resources and bring instability to the system.

That is a batch/.bat file, normally created within Notepad which is a Text editor which doesn't add a lot of usually-hidden formatting like a word processor does. It is great for programmers and was what I started using for learning with HTML/Hyper Text Markup Language for creating Web pages. I started using Batch files back in DOS and are usually run in the Command Prompt window, many still useful.

Something that I have noticed with the new Notepad is that "Undo" is unavailable if you past something into a text file.

Notepad++ purely for the encryption plugin , you can encrypt a sensitive file withn it without having to drag it into another piece of software.

I like the "new" Notepad, dark mode and multiple tabs make several tasks easier for my usage.

Notepad++ is my go-to as well,
Classic Notepad, cuz it's there,
Text Edit Plus, it's got a couple features I've not found in any other.

And, occasionally, I like to tinker with software! :cool:
