All my computers have Microsoft accounts, and I had the dickens of a time getting Copilot on my HP 15" Lappy. I still don't know how I finally got it, but now it's on all of my computers!

This Copilot Preview thingie on Local Account PC's has become ridiculous.

Just yesterday I commented that this programme showed up on one of my two Win 11 laptops but not the other. Both are on version 22631.3085 and Local Account only.

I now find that on both machines, I can activate the programme with two simple, repeatable steps after boot:

1) reg \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Copilot\BingChat IsUserEligible, edit value from 0 to 1 and save
2) Settings > Personalisation > Taskbar and turn the CoPilot Preview slider off then back on

Doubtless, this won't work a week from next Tuesday but it's quite repeatable today.

On a related note, I installed ChatGPT a few weeks ago. This installation was quite seamless and the programme then invited me to nominate the first topic. I asked two questions then followed with in-depth interrogations, both of which finished with a caveat from the programme that its' information was limited to prior 2023 and it had no internet access. So not too much use then.

Yesterday I returned to it to see if both it (ChatGPT) and CoPilot Preview would give the same answers to the same questions ... just my idle curiosity. ChatGPT now, suddenly, requires logging into an MS account before it plays with you. I've subsequently uninstalled it.

I asked CoPilot: Do you give any personal opinions?

CoPilot began generating a response that went something like: I try not to as I am a machine and not a human + more......... which quickly vanished and was replaced by: My mistake, I can’t give a response to that right now. Let’s try a different topic.

So I guess I won't be asking who's going to win the big games tomorrow.

I think Cortana died from lack of exercise. When we were kids, we knew the slogan, "Use it or lose it!" Hardly anybody used Cortana recently.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I had Copilot with a local account in 22631.3007. Then I installed the Preview CU for 22631.3085, the preview of the non-security patches to be included in the next Patch Tuesday CU.

I was disappointed to find that it had removed Copilot, your tip brought it back. :thumbsup:

I asked Copilot the question 'what is the meaning of life' and Copilot's concise answer is below. It is a very well balanced answer based on the references it finds, IMHO.

It goes far, far, far, far beyond web searches.

No other question affects more people since the dawn of time, no other question has more perspectives and facets, no other question requires more balancing to provide an answer.

As is the case with any other tool, you need to use Copilot with a minimum of skill, the more skillful you use Copilot, the better your results will be.

Anyway, as is the case with any other tool, it is garbage in garbage out. If you feed garbage into Copilot, then Copilot will give you garbage, and I'd say blame yourself, not the tool.

The reverse is also true, though. Use Copilot with aplomb and you will reap the GREATEST benefits
