Solved Copying speed suddenly dropped by 90%. What??

Thanks. That seems likely. I'm now getting better consistent speeds with FastCopy64 (Portable made by extracting files from the installer).

That burst speed at the beginning is a bit of an illusion - it is simply files filling up a RAM buffer. Data being copied is filling up RAM faster than it can be written to disk (RAM is faster than disks).

Eventually the buffer gets filled and data can only be copied as fast as it can be written.

Eventually all data is copied, and buffer gets emptied.

This is perfectly normal.

Thanks for the information, @cereberus. Now I know. That PC is now working correctly, and with FastCopy, I’m getting really good results, given the specs of that machine.

Robocopy seems to run better on older machines than the gui method, if you ever need that route
