Disk Check Every Boot Since 24H2

Hi all.

When I boot 24H2, I get a disk check on one of my drives. On 23H2 I was not getting this. Is there a way to fix this without formatting?

1) Run Sea Tools Long Generic test > post images or share links





2) If it passes the Long generic test then run these chkdsk switches overnight while sleeping:


Administrative command prompt: chkdsk /b /v C:


C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk /b /v C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be

Type: y

Reboot.

I started to do this. Reaching 1% took several minutes (it's a 4TB disk). So I quit.

Administrative command prompt: chkdsk /b /v C:

I assume as it is my E drive the command is - chkdsk /b /v E:

I will try a format first as there is only 440GB on the disk. I am creating a copy of the disk now. I regularly use Syncback Pro to backup, but I will still try a backup manually first.

If that does not fix it I will use your recommendations. Thanks @zbook.

The Long Generic test does take time.

However it can run overnight or in the background.

Thank you @zbook. I did startup repair by holding down the shift key and rebooting. That seems to have fixed the issue.

If I have further problems like this I will post back.
