Does anyone know if these processors support System Power State S3 (Deep Sleep)?

I suppose that a brand that has been known to be hemorrhaging sales numbers to major competitors in the midrange laptop department due to persistent issues like the one that this thread is about, they have no other choice than to make sure the issue no longer happens with newer models. But then the older models don't magically disappear and neither do all the years of complaints that went before these newer models. You say you are a trader in the tech industry. You should be aware that one of the best ways to lose a customer is by treating the customer like a problem doesn't exist before finally admitting the fact that it does, the only real solution being "just buy this year's model from our brand because we seriously love your cash", like. :ROFLMAO:

All companies will have some disgruntled customers that carry vendettas. This is the 6th Dell I've purchased in the past 20 years. I've always been happy with Dell.

I don't see any vendettas. Just two boatloads of ppl (ppl you pretend don't exist) who couldn't disable Modern Standby so it dangerously overheats in a backpack or the battery drains to 30% overnight, and who got told to go make theirself some coffee while it wakes from hibernate.

Modern Standby has worked flawlessly for me for 6 months. Dell does have a warning not to leave the computer turned on when carrying in a closed case with no airflow. I've heeded that warning. Battery life has been good. I don't leave my laptop running overnight. Maybe I'm just fortunate with the way I use my computer.

The whole point of Modern Standby is to be able to keep the device turned on when carrying in a closed case, laptop bag or backpack with no airflow, same as you would a normal smartphone or tablet. The "AoAc" in "PlatformAoAcOverride" stands for "Always on, Always connected". So then, the only question IMO is, what part of "Always" don't they understand? You know.. like, understand flawlessly.

I'm talking general here . . .

As long as I've had laptops, I've known that I can go into Power Settings and set the default to shut down when the lid is closed. For me, that is the optimum power setting.

Yes, it takes a bit longer to boot the system after shutdown, but there's much less chance of the laptop being damaged thru overheating. I have never used hibernation . . . I had problems with it early on . . .

Nobody here has suggested that it has not been working less than flawlessly.
It's what it does that is being discussed.
If, just as for cereberus, it suits your requirements then fine.
If you want to be able to S3 Sleep or use Task scheduler then S0 Modern standby is a curse.

I'm sorry but I think you are incorrect.
I think the point was exactly what MS said it was, to achieve "the instant on that consumers expect from modern devices", and they did not think any further than that fictional view of what users wanted.

I honestly don't understand why I should want S3 sleep over Modern Standby for the way I use my computer.

I have no complaints coping with Modern Standby on a Dell....

My Dell Latitude 5410 is my only system with Modern Standby, so that goes into standby rather than sleep first, but then hibernates 20 minutes later like all my others. That took a bit of setting up, as by default the 'Hibernate after...' option is missing from the power plan on a Modern Standby device, I had to use Brink's Ten Forums tutorial to add it.

...less than 10 seconds to resume from hibernate.

People have been using S3 sleep to carry their laptop from one meeting to the next with no overheating for at least a full quarter of a century. Powering back on or waking from hibernate (at least if we can assume that hibernate DOES work flawlessly, that is...) not only is much slower, but wastes a little more battery power also in addition to this, in fact my laptop's cooling fan spins up for a short period each time after I reboot or power back up so the sound it makes can be yet another valid reason to want to avoid that, and, as long as sleep works flawlessly─which can be tested to see that it does─there simply is no need to make any such sacrifices. I call them "nihilists". You know, ppl who persistently fail to accept that a problem can still be real, and can still be real REGARDLESS of who is or who isn't a luddite. Here's me in my bath tub.

That's just a matter of semantics. Technically, you can't turn a device instantly back on if it's always already on (and connected, always also).

Bottom line is that some people want to shut the lid and not worry about the battery going flat if they don't bother to open it again for a week or so.

If I open mine within 20 minutes it still is 'instant on'. If I've already left it for half an hour before I bothered to come back to it then an extra 10 seconds to wake is of no significance.

...which they can achieve by setting the lid close action to shut down Windows or hibernate so they're golden or they should be at least.

Well it's funny to me that there are numerous questions about a laptop overheating with the lid closed in sleep.

to help find out if they are really S3 Sleeping or merely in a state of S0 Modern standby [ aka S0 Low power idle].
