downgrading to w10 need w11 key from laptop please

hi going to 10 cant stand 11 BUT in the future i might revert back so i need the os key for this laptop ..
as i understand some ids are not for os but for hardware ?

If you use a Microsoft Account, the key should be registered and associated with your laptop.

You can check it from the Settings app > Update & Security > Activation page. The Activation status should mention this, if your license is linked to Microsoft account, it should say: Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account.

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

Starting with Windows 8 the Windows key for a PC supplied by the OEM with Windows pre-installed is stored in the bios firmware. The keys for Windows 11 and Windows 10 are interchangeable, they are all valid keys for Windows 10/11. When you clean install W10 or W11 the Setup will read the key from the firmware and use that to install Windows.

You do not need to know the key, but if you'd like to find it, then ShowKeyPlus can tell you what the OEM key is.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

The digital licence is not linked to the activation key. The digital licence is linked to the hardware id.

However, if OP reinstalls W10 on SAME pc, it will activate automatically REGARDLESS of using a local or MS account.

Yep, totally wiped my factory original 10 install when I got it. Reinstalled a nice clean 10 ISO download and key was automatically applied. When I upgraded to 11 no additional key info needed. It's in the chip.

The original key is NOT linked to the digital licence.
