Looks good, but working in photography most of my working life, I have bigger better programs but it looks like it has some good basic editing tools built in. The current Win 10 one is not good, so just for viewing I use the "old" Windows Photo Viewer.

A professional or armature who's seriously into their work will use a more powerful tool like Photoshop. While MS is improving both paint and photo viewer it's not going to match Photoshop.

Paintshop Pro Ultimate cheaper than Photoshop and does everything I need it to, plus Irfanview for just displaying and a few game content creation graphics type apps, so never likely to actually use Photos other than to have a quick look.

Not a fan of Photoshop myself, it's good but the full pro version used so much memory, there are however lots of lower versions people use here in the UK

I'm also a photographer with better tools, but for quick and simple nothing wrong with giving the app a go. Just because the app doesn't have all the bells and whistles of other apps like Photoshop, DXO, or other more robust apps doesn't mean it can't be useful.
And I'm 1000 percent certain Microsoft isn't intending this to replace those apps mentioned above
Anyway, I look forward to the newly designed app
Oh, and yes, I'm paying the subscription fee for Adobe's Photography plan (Photoshop and Lightroom). No regrets.

As someone who has no interest in photography it's ideal for me. When my better half needs to print an iphone photo I can brighten the image, change the size and get a fairly decent print. Job done.
Updated my second laptop this morning and found a feature in the app I didn't notice on the other laptop and will have to check it later.
I use Lightshot for screen capture and save to a selected folder. Checking out the folder and opening one screenshot found that you can select other shots to show as one image. Apologies if this was known beforehand. So you could select shots to compare and capture it.

What version of ACDSee? is there a official download link to try? At present I use Zoner and XnView.I almost never look upon MS photo apps. Just familiar with Adobe PS and an old ACDSee. But will do it some time.

I have ACDSee 5. Bought long time ago in a dvd format, but it's nice for managing pictures, foto viewer, and simple editing. Doesn't work with layers editing.

I would suggest it would be more useful, as a part of the Screen Snip app or the screen snip functionality be combined with this to make a useful app without any pretensions of competing against the Third party alternatives - it would be useful for general use and as a feeder for more accomplished options
