Seeing less RAM than installed is a sign of incompatibility. Have you tried to swap the modules (put one pair in the slots of the other) ? If this doesn't work you have to return the newer pair to replace it with the same or different model.

Another freeze at around 5.19pm, NOTHING in event logs.

Could actually have a dead memory channel B2, took out all but 1 ram stick (A2) played fine from 6.47pm – 10-50pm, best I have had in a while.

May just go with a 32gig stick by itself.

I would run MemTest (found in Strelec Mins WinPE and elsewhere) at each RAM module separately to find the faulty one. If all modules pass the test, then I would test one module in every slot separately to see if I have a faulty slot. If again passes, it is clearly some incompatibility, the modules cannot automatically be configured to work all together. I would try to manually set the frequency and timings in BIOS, but this is a little more advanced.

Just finished memtest, 2 sticks came back fine, have not tested the other 2 yet, so for now I may leave for a few days and see how it goes.

I you have bought recently the new pair, return it to the shop ASAP telling you see BSOD and let them test it for you. In case it is faulty they should replace it under Warranty. If it is fine but incompatible with your system, you should ask to pay the difference to replace them with another set (other part number), check RAM compatibility list of your system.

In that case do the MemTest as I suggested in my previous post to find out if one module has gone bad. Do not use the Windows version, it cannot test all RAM while Windows is running. Use the version found in Strelec WinPE or a Linux live USB. You can download the Strelec ISO from here:

If all modules pass the test (separately, not all connected at the same time), test one of them in every slot to see if you have a faulty slot. If all slots are OK, then try connecting the modules at different slots. See the timings, if different, put the faster modules in the first slot pair and the slower at the other pair. If one pair has higher capacity than the other, put the higher first. In worst case you might need to manually set the timings in BIOS (choose some timings common to both pairs) or you might need to place them mixed without dual channel. Having the RAM working perfectly in single channel mode is better than having it malfunctioning in dual channel mode.

I did the memtest64 from usb, 2 stick came back after 4 passes fine, have not checked the others. Timing are the same on al 4 sticks.

Well I just did game for 6 hours tonight (JUST finished now), and had no problem with the 2 that passed the check. Will check the other 2 tomorrow.

I only got the extra 2 x8gb (cheaper than 16gb at the time), because I was testing a lot of OS's in VM Ware. WIll get Strelec though and put it on a USB for safety.

Well I replaced all 4 ram sticks with 2 x16gb, went well, for 2 days, then got 2 freezes, then today and yesterday I got the GSOD with this error.

Did ANOTHER ram test, in OCCT, with 3 mins got errors, did the built in windows one (yeah I know memtest is better), also got errors, so swapped ram slots.

If you test each RAM module alone and is fine, then test each RAM slot alone to see if you have any faulty slot. If everything is fine separately, then it is some incompatibility. Try swapping the modules until they work. If they don't you must replace them. Since you have done this already and the modules are new, most likely you have one or more faulty slots.

It's looking like BOTH B slots, as I ran ramtest on A2/B2, got 9 minutes into test and errors. Move one to B1 got errors as well, so only running 1 x16GB stick at the moment (A2), have not tested A1 slot yet as cooler is sort of in the way.

Unless the motherboard has received some electric shock from a power failure or from a faulty PSU, it is very weird for all slots to have a problem. I would replace the power supply and repeat the tests. Also using a UPS to stabilize power is not a bad idea. Unsteady power can cause issues. Try another AC power socket, if available, or try plugging the computer directly without a power strip.

I put one back into the B2 slot yesterday, within 5 minutes (Just reading emails) and got a green screen AGAIN with NTOSKRNL according to Blue Screen View.

So the slot is faulty. If the motherboard is still under Warranty, proceed to replace it. Call the store and tell them your findings. They will test it and confirm themselves and then send back to Supplier for replacement under Warranty. If it is no more than a couple of weeks from purchase it might even considered DOA (Dead On Arrival) and be eligible for immediate replacement without having to wait for sending to their Supplier or manufacturer.

Will be getting an i5-12400f ($165AUD on Amazon AU) next week and board (around $140AUD) the following week. Buying what I can afford.

The ONLY replacement boards I can find are either 2nd hand or some unknown Chinese brand.

What motherboard are you going for?

For LGA1700 boards (for the I5-12400F), you have the choice of boards that support DDR4 or DDR5. You'd obviously need the former if you want to carry over the RAM from your old machine.

If you change socket you must also change the CPU. That's why I am trying to keep mine as long as possible. Nothing new is compatible, I will need to change all three, motherboard, CPU and RAM to upgrade, rather expensive option. So I replaced my old Intel Core-i3 with second hand Core-i7, I maxed the RAM to 2x 8GB, replaced my nVidia GTS 630 with an nVidia GTX 1050 Ti and my 480GB SSD with 1TB. I hope it will meet my needs for at least 3-5 years more. I wouldn't like to buy a refurbished just a few generations newer. Technically it will still be old technology.
