Get rid of Browsers Extensions, it wants to be updated every day multiple times a day, tired of it

IT's back again this am. Including date to show it's new.
And yet you still insist on using Edge despite recommendations for Firefox, Google Chrome, and then there are still many other more controllable options for web browser

You are at the whim of Microsoft, and with many things Windows, what Microsoft wants you to have, then the user shall have it!! Petulant tantrums and footstamping won't help

Try right click on the icon and use the hide it from toolbar option (the slide switch in Settings wouldn't remove it for me, hide did)

why do you like to argue so much? .... look for yourself. didnt update until i went into settings > about edge and let it. nothing on toolbar:
That extension icon (update or not) only shows up if you have extensions installed (and maybe only then if you have extension icons pinned to the toolbar?)

if this reg (what i said before) doesn't resolve that button NOT showing.. then your edge profile is corrupt

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge]
"PinBrowserEssentialsToolbarButton"=dword:00000000
Went looking, there is no key. Do I need to make one?

Well, it's back after registry change.

Does Laptop have to be restarted for reg change?

Nope. Just Edge.

Have you tried repairing or re-setting Edge?

Have you tried deleting your Edge profile(s) and starting from scratch?

If you're signed into Windows or Edge on all your PCs, this may be the source of your problem, i.e. you updated one or more instances, but not all of them.

Well, so far after the reg change and a restart the update button has not shown up. Will be confirmed after some more days.

This am it is back.

Can't be stopped from popping up.
I like being logged in on multiple devices with my user name.
I give up.
At least it is not popping up many times per day like before.
But it could do that again, I figure it depends on how many hourly updates they push at me.

I also do not believe it only happens to me.
Click update, the far right frame appears

Edge is never updated more than once per day; only once or twice each week.

It is why I started this thread. I would update and a few hours later another update message button appeared. I got tired of it.

So it is back. Yes. What do you propose to do about it?

You have been given many suggestions here but by the look of your browser not much has changed.

This means you have to do something more drastic. How about starting with a fresh, new, never-used-before drive?

Followed by:

Fresh install with a local account instead of a Microsoft account. Rufus is very helpful this way.

When you install Firefox don't register it with your email. Run blind. Trust me, you'll still be notified about critical updates and such.

NEVER synchronize your browsers. OF course, if you have a half decent old style desktop you can still keep your old OS and just boot to a newly installed one via DUAL or MULTIPLE boot. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way. This way you get to have a real, decent, clutter free operating system and you have an OS to go get dirty with. Extensions can be dirty things, my friend. They often don't play fair. But if it floats your boat, have fun! Take charge! Be an Alpha! Go POLY! 😎 Go multi-boot.

Your browser profile is probably corrupted. Delete user data for all profiles and start from scratch.

yeah something is broken. if you dont want to recreate your edge profile, use WinaeroTweaker and disable Edge Updates (unless you want to do the 3 steps manually each time to disable and Enable updates when you want it to update....)

Yeah, I don't want to do radical stuff like start over when the PC is otherwise working fine. I am a busy person. Lots of other things I am doing. And computers, I have found, are great eaters of time.
