Solved Hasleo restore backup from emergency disk

I was given advice in another topic of a small list of recommended image software. I chose Hasleo which seems capable. I've already created some test backups on a network drive. These are Disk/Partition backups. I chose to backup all partitions on the drive.

I plan to wipe my drive clean and reinstall Windows 11 fresh. If this fails for some reason, I'll need to restore from Hasleo. I won't have Windows installed and Hasleo won't be available either. I did create an Emergency Disk ISO. But this doesn't seem to include Hasleo.

So this begs the question, how do I restore a Disk/Partition backup from Hasleo when there's no working Windows environment?

You should have created a Emergency USB stick through Hasleo. That USB stick will then be bootable and will boot into the Hasleo Program where you'll be able to restore your Hasleo backups by pointing it to the correct locations of your Hasleo backup(s) and restoring it.

Okay this is a hypothetical situation. I haven't wiped my drive yet. Just planning for different scenarios. So are you saying the emergency disk will contain Hasleo? I have the ISO ready to write to a USB thumbdrive but not sure I see Hasleo on it.

Also is the Disk/Partition backup the best recovery option? I saw other backups such as System Backup and File Backup.

UPDATE: I see Hasleo is inside the boot.wim file in the Emergency Disk.

Easy enough to test, just boot off the USB stick and make sure everything is working properly prior to wiping the drive. As you can see below it states the differences between them. I recommend you look over their user manual to become familiar with all of the features.

I've now tested the restore and it does work! My only hiccup was the network drive. The emergency disk doesn't have support for a network drive so far as I could tell. So I copied it to a larger thumb drive and did the restore.

Herein lies differences not often discussed by people when considering free alternatives to Macrium Reflect.

Sure for many users, the free alternatives are acceptable for basic use, but I often backup my travel laptop over wifi to my main laptop. I am not aware of any other (free) backup tool that can do that. Even the free version of Macrium Reflect Free could do this.

I've been on a Windows hiatus the past few months, doing my first deep dive into Linux. So all my external USB hard drives are formatted ext4. So I had to dig up a larger thumb drive and format it NTFS. Probably should format one of those drives as NTFS.
