America uses Celsius for computer temps. And you don't have to convert.
Just about every computer temp monitoring program there is, uses Celsius, unless you specifically changed it.

F=1.8 x C+32. Is that a challenge?

I was taught metric in middle school (junior high school, then) in upstate NY in the mid 1960s. I'm not sure when I began to use it in earnest, but maybe in grad school. Metric is standard in some engineering disciplines, in the US.

My late father worked for IBM. They used both SAE and metric screws. They dyed the screws to avoid confusion.

Canada went metric beginning in 1970. The US could do the same, but I'd expect a lot of resistance.

I'm not sure whether it still holds, but signage on I19 (from Tucson, AZ to the Mexican border) was entirely in metric. I presume for the convenience of Mexican nationals who headed North to buy stuff.

They'll last forever, they're quiter than the CM fan(s), and the bearings are completely waterproof and dust proof.

I just had a Noctua NF-P12 redux-1700 PWM (used as a case fan) die. Noctua makes great stuff, but disappointment is still possible.

(I'm not going to try for a warranty replacement of a $16 fan.)

I am a long time Noctua user and currently have a Noctua NH-U12S on my ASUS X570 Rog Crosshair XIII board.
It's quiet and very effective.
Never had a fan problem in over 20 years on Noctua use.
I'm a real fan so to speak.

It may be time to stop fretting about the cooler. The AMD cooler should be OK, if you don't overclock.

I'm not sure what the maximum specified temp for the 1800X is, but it may be 85C (185F). You wouldn't want it to run most of the time at that temperature, but spiking to that for brief periods shouldn't be harmful. It might matter if you want the CPU to last for another 10 years. I think that our new robot overlords will want to retire their weak ancestors by then, though.

You "want" a stronger cooler. But do you need a stronger cooler? Will it provide you with a benefit worth the cost?

120F is about 49C. This is in no way an issue. The cpu will work at those temperatures for a very long time. Probably longer than you will ever want to keep it. But the point I am trying to drive home is that if you were able to drop it say 15c down to 35C max....it's not like you are going to double its life. In fact, from a lifetime on the cpu standpoint, it's probably almost 0 difference.

Your temps are well within specs. Your biggest gain would be asthetic changing your cpu cooler at this point. You don't have a heat problem. I would just put that money toward something else if it were me

It's a challenge to me. For one, I shouldn't have to to do something that I wasn't ever taught to do. Two, It is a proven fact that the °F is more accurate than °C.

You've just been taught, by more than one poster. Or did it have to come from a school teacher, when you were a child?

Should we be using kilometers for distances? A kilometer is about 0.61 miles, so reporting distances in km would be more "accurate".

I was going to say something about the difference between accuracy and precision, but that might be rude.

I admit to inconsistency. I expect barometric pressure to be reported in the arbitrary units of millimeters of mercury. I've never gotten used to millibars or kiloPascals. I still fill my car's tires to the correct PSI.

Incidentally, Noctua specs their fans in m3/hr (cubic meters per hour). One m3/hr is 0.589 cfm. Sorry that the conversion factor isn't an integer.

Perhaps it's the school you went to because I learned that in junior high in the early 70's at a public school. But then again that was when they actually taught stuff in schools. Today....

And the fact that the United States (and some others) uses still Fahrenheit doesn't make it mean it's more "accurate", it just means they chose to stick with the Fahrenheit system as the rest went with the Celsius system as pointed out in your own link via the very first sentence....

Celsius is the obvious temperature scale of choice when conducting scientific experiments. Water freezes at 0. It boils at 100. It is beautiful and simple and has a lot going for it, not least of which is adoption by most of the world.

So, no... NOT more accurate just an older (by 18 years) measuring system. Just like the U.S. chose to go with the imperial measuring system while most of the world went (stayed) metric.

In the end, I suppose "more accurate" would depend on what system you grew up with

The funny thing is that the normal pronunciation of Chevrolet is basically French. (Although the correct pronunciation of the last syllable would be more like "eh" than "ay", if I recall my two years of high school French correctly after a few decades.)

But then, you might want French fries with your hot dogs. (They may actually be of Belgian origin, but that's close enough.)

I don't believe that I was ever thoroughly taught the metric system in school. But with things like The Internet, there are plenty of tools that make it super easy to do the conversions.

With that said, i do speak computer terms in Celcius, because that is what everybody does. Every part spec is listed in Celcius, every review is done in Celcius, every forum post is in Celcius....and it's because that is the unit of measurement that the computer industry uses. So, while I'm not fluent in doing the calculations from Celsius to Farentheit and back again in my head, I know that when I look at a CPU and it says it's running at 50C under load...that I know immediately that this is fine. Most of todays CPU's wouldn't concern me at all until they were running into the 80C and above category

As far as accuracy goes, we aren't concerned with fractions of degrees making the difference here. Who cares if it's 35C or 37C, as long as it's not 88C or 94C....that's what matters.

LOL - So very very true. And I've gotten so use to it, I instinctively state mine in Celsius. I don't even think about converting.
