Solved Help me merge this small unallocated space to the main partition (C)

I am trying to merge this 261MB with the main partition but could someone guide me achieve this with AOMEI Partition Asst.Pro in my SFG14-72 Windows 11 installation, I understand it's a small unallocated space and it's not going to increase may main partition but I am trying this for learning AOMEI Partition Pro.

You said it yourself, it's a small amount. Windows Disk Management has a feature used to Shrink a partition the merge the newly available unallocated space to another partition. Or just delete the unused partition and merge it. BUT, the free space has to be contiguous to the one merging with or other partitions have to be moved around. I don't use AOMEI yet, my work in doing it has been on a Linux computer with GPARTED installed and using the drive in a USB Drive Dock, mostly for cleaning all data from a drive.

In addition to the bitlocker faff , cant do that from inside windows, needs to be done from boot media.

the 261mb unallocated is not adjacent there is the 100mb esp partition in between.

The partition manager will move the esp and os partitions to the left and have to adjust the bcd and registry entries.

It is not unique to aomei, they would all have to do that

( posting this from winpe while doing a defender scan, palemoon portable works fine )

Fair enough. I have done a lot of that kind of thing over the years. Like everything else, it is easy when you have done it a few times. Daunting on the first attempt

Better have a backup in case you screw something up

I didn't pay enough attention to the picture at first but would caution that since it exists before the boot/system partition/s making a change could break the ability to boot the computer, cause a full reinstall.

Yes, I can do this by cloning with Macrium Reflect by dragging the partitions, I want to experiment with AOMEI, yes, I have made two backups and a clone of this drive.

The older palemoon version I was using ( becuse it is small ) doesnt work well on this forum because John has the webp thing going on. Needs a fairly recent palemoon portable which is unfortunately bigger. Not a major issue the big palemoon runs off the usb stick, if a bit slowly

Thats what worries me as well, all the examples have the unallocated partition after the main partition, in my case it's in front of all partitions.

Trying is how one learns. Why are you worried you say you have backups. Use a bootable usb, I wouldnt use the preos or whatever it is called

I strongly advise against it. It would go beyond just extending a partition into unallocated space. You should first understand the rules of how partitioning works. That space is not contiguous and would involve moving the data on your other partitions.. I understand partitioning and have been doing it for years and I would not do it since nothing is to be gained from it. If you want to learn how to partition, get an old drive with partitions already on it and partition away to learn how to use AOEMI. IMO, this particular case should not be used as a "lesson." If you image your system using Macrium or one of the others that allows you to resize partitions during a restore (Not all do) that space could easily be included into your partition scheme during a restore.

If you are paranoid you could clone your os disk to some old disk you have lying around then test your partitioning skills on that

most people have some mechanical disks hanging around, could use one of these. Takes a lot longer on a mechanical but it lets you try stuff out without worrying

The only way to learn is by doing.

It looks neat and I didn't experiment with AOMEI, accomplished the job with Macrium Reflect cloning and pleased with it.

Recovery partition is typically placed after the Windows partition not before it.

Yes, Kevtech is correct. The reason for this is as the recovery partition changes and grows through windows updates, the update process is designed to take space away from the trailing end of the OS partition and then add that space to the recovery partition to accomodate these changes.
Since your recovery partition is before your OS partition, that automatic enlargement of stealing space from C: is no longer possible.
