Horrible Keyboard Input Language Switch Lag after Win 11 22H2 update

a few days ago i've finally upgraded to 22H2, i gave them 4 months to make sure that they've fixed all the usual problems, but in the result i've never seen Windows this bad, and i've been using it since Win 97.

The main problem i have right now is that out of a sudden my Input Language Switch hot keys are not working 3 of 5 times (those are the hot keys that you use to switch between languages if you're using a few).

It's important to note that Win+Space works fine for the same purpose without any lagging, but i used to Ctrl+Shift and i want it to work as it did before.

First thing first: This has nothing to do with the physical keyboard, it also doesn't matter which side i'm pressing these keys. it feels like something is interrupting the switch.

What i've tried so far:
Googling for solutions;
Disabled Touch Keyboard Service;
Disabled Win+Space shortcut (that actually somehow helped until i rebooted)
Reassigned input language switch to different keys;
Disabled all the pointless interrupting rubbish in the Accessibility's keyboard settings;
One by one disabled all possible services and background apps.

Nothing helps. I'm desperate because this really interrupts with my work and makes me very angry.

Please any suggestions

To switch languages, you had to install language packs?

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the packs?

Otherwise, perhaps a key remapping tool that remaps Ctrl + Shift to Win + Space might do the trick for you, allowing you to use your custom keystroke combination to access the one that works perfectly fine with Windows 11 22H2.

yes, because win+space works perfectly, it makes sense to try to assign my original Ctrl+Shift to Win+Space, but unfortunately none of the software i tried can do that with these particular keys:

Actual Window Manager can't assign Win+Space to a hot key combination;

HotkeyP can't pass a remapping to keys combination, or at least it didn't work for me;

SharpKeys doesn't have this functionality.

it's important to note that Ctrl+Shift actually work if i hold Ctrl first and then press Shift to cycle through the list of languages; still it doesn't work with an instant press, like it used to

Hmmm. You've done good with the testing, and especially to notice that it works if you slow down the input process.

I'm curious - If you go to Mouse Properties from Control Panel, do you have Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key setting enabled? (Another way to get there is from the Mouse Settings page in Windows Settings, click on the Additional mouse settings near the bottom)

nope, all that crap is disabled, i'm all for optimization

Win+Space works fine, even though i never set it up and there's no way to disable it. That's the first combination i try on the video.

Then it must have been off screen lol - I never saw the pop up on the right.

My bad.

Question - is C+S a normal short cut for it also, or is it something that you had to set up for that manually? I *think* you covered this, but did you rtry removing all custom keystroke settings and let it only use Win + Space, and then reboot and set it to C+S again?

by default it's Shift+Alt for some reason, but i set it to Ctrl+Shift since the beginning of time.

Just tried to leave it Unassigned, restarted, set C+S again = same result :tears:

what a great idea, somehow i didn't try that before. indeed it solves the problem, but unfortunately i need the ~ symbol as i'm a web-dev :tears:

Wait, so setting it to "`" disallows "~"?

Also, are you using any particular 'specialized' keyboard, especially anything that might have hot-key support? I'm guessing no, but I realized I never actually asked to verify....

unfortunately you need to hold Shift to type ~ (which is on the same key as ` ) and with Input Language Switch set to `, Shift + ` doesn't give me ~, it just switches the language, which is yet another bug on Microsoft's side.

i'm actually using an external keyboard with my laptop, so i have two keyboards and both work the same way with this lag; and of course i tried to disable external keyboard - same thing.

I'm laughing because this is definitely not supposed to happen. Unreal.

But, maybe a cause for a solution. If I can find the setting I am thinking about.

Do you have text suggestions on, or else multilingual text suggestions on?

Settings --> Time & Language --> Typing --> Advanced keyboard settings

Language list? Different input method of r each app window? Desktop language bar?

Accessibility --> Keyboard --> Filter keys

Ignore quick keystrokes? Ignore unintended keystrokes? Ignore repeated keystrokes?

Each of the last three has a drop down also, which allows you to set a value - mine are all set to 0.0 and all three are off.

Also: Control Panel --> Keyboard Properties

Repeat delay and Repeat rate?

tried both. language indication on the taskbar only.

what's interesting though is that Disabling the language bar doesn't hide it from taskbar:

seems so familiar but i cannot find those settings, could you please point me to where exactly i can locate them?

Settings --> Accessibility --> Keyboard (scroll down to Interaction section) --> Filter keys (it's not just a toggle, but also has hidden settings, just tap on the word Filter)

Each of those Ignore ... also have settings, not just a toggle - tap on each one anywhere but the toggle, and the settings should drop down.

thank you for the detailed instruction. everything was disabled there, however i played a bit with those settings and none of them affected the problem :tears:

Then I think we've reached the point where a bug report to MS via the Feedback app is required. I am all out of ideas.

Unless you want to use UUPDump and build an .ISO of 21H2 build and reinstall, and then keep ignoring 22H2 upgrade in Windows Update.

Heck, both might be worth doing.

seeing their template-replies on the official forum never gave me much expectations, nor i have any beliefs in their support.

i will leave it as the last resort and wait a few more days, maybe somebody else will come up with a solution.
