I find AI a great tool, I use it all the time to create, convert, and correct code in ways that are way past my skillset

@Ghot There is an AI race going on in the entire world with MS being a bit ahead of Google at the moment. Pretty surprising because not long ago, Google was far ahead.

@bobkn Don't use Copilot if it doesn't work for you. Perhaps wait for a few months or whatever it takes for it to improve and live up to your expectations.

Copilot does work at present for @BunnyJ @z3r010 me and others, though. Also, MS offers Copilot for Business that is paid for at a pretty hefty price tag that can only be justified by productivity improvements.

I know. They should finish the AI before they release it though.

How many times were 3D movies thrust on the public? 4 or 5? And they still don't work right.
Then there's VR which also... doesn't work properly. And it's made an appearance 2-3 times so far.

The only good thing I can say about Copilot, is that it's sort of free. Well, the basic version that is.

I'd bet money NASA isn't gonna use Copilot to calculate their next moon or Mars flight.

I tried "Can Copilot pass the Turing test?" The response was what the Turing test is, but with no yes or no.

At the moment, I'd say that it's a no. I suppose that's deliberate on the part of its authors.

I also tried "who is haydon?" Copilot didn't ask for a disambiguation, but gave a single reply, someone other than the illustrious forumite.

(If I ask "who is haydon on elevenforums", I get a correct response, but I rarely want to supply that much information at the front end.)

My main complaint with Google is that sometimes I can't craft a keyword search that doesn't return a ton of irrelevant crap. (Some of that may be due to SEO fouling up what should be returned.) The internal search engine at Amazon is much worse. Copilot's errors for my questions have involved what I'd call sloppiness in a human. (True information which is entirely not applicable to my question.) I haven't seen any hallucinations yet, but I imagine that my questions haven't been the sort to promote that.

I just tried "Did Ralph Nader ever own a Corvair?" The answer was yes. Surprising. I thought that Ralph had never even held a driver's license. But it may be true.

Ask copilot this... this is pretty simple. Any tenth grader could do this.

Perform completing the square on Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0, and give the solution, and show all your work.

Or... ask it if it's jealous of Bard.

Or ask Copilot why this picture is funny...

Or maybe something useful... tell Copilot to write a table of contents for a book containing all the tutorials on ElevenForum.

The more specific the prompt is to Copilot, the better the answers Copilot will provide. The reverse is also true, the less specific the prompt is to Copilot, the less specific the answers Copilot will provide (garbage in, garbage out, dummy in, dummy out LOL) The 'Chat' version of Copilot allows for up to 2,000 characters per prompt, which is a little more than 1 page of MS Word per prompt, the 'Notebook' version of Copilot allows for up to 18,000 characters per prompt, which is about 10 pages of MS Word per prompt, i.e. quite detailed prompts.

And as I said before, you can do multiple iterations to refine the prompts more and more, to get better and better results from Copilot. Of course, the reverse is also true, i.e. if you are lazy, you get lazy answers from Copilot, if you are a dummy, you get dummy answers from Copilot LOL

Anyway, doing the iterations is part of the skill that you can apply to using Copilot

As with any subject you're going to get the pros and cons responses. I see the negative side of AI and you see the positive side of AI. With the ability of computers being able to do more and more of our thinking I see this as a fast track for people getting dementia at earlier ages. I truly believe that we need to exercise our minds by using them more and not less. Another negative I see is that corporation are going to need less and less employees to run.

But seriously, your frustrations with your Google searches etc. is exactly what Copilot is extremely good at solving/accelerating, e.g. what took me hours, now takes minutes with Copilot. Of course, you need to know how to use Copilot, practice makes the master

With everything I do with my computers I still have to do my own thinking. I think we can agree that we see AI differently.

I just thought of a good example of devices hurting us by doing our thinking for us. It's one that I am guilty of using. Speed dial. Out of all of your family and friends that you have, how many of their phone numbers do you know by heart. I have more fingers than phone numbers I know without looking them up. I'm in the habit of putting their names and numbers in my contact list and not bother to take the time to remember them.
