How many Insider version do you run, and why?


Since I started this thread, I barely bother with Dev even now as it is so slow with any decent features.

I am only interested in new ways of searching e.g. click on calendar to search for slippers, click on volume to get travel news in Ruritania, click on start button to find out scores of (Welsh) Llareggub football team etc. We just do not have enough search methods with existing 247 ways of searching - WE NEED MORE!

Yes, well that's what I'm saying, just copy the program, program (x86), program data, user folders onto an external hard drive and then paste everything once the new Windows installation is done and no need to reinstall new programs

That's not going to included every file or setting needed for the program to run.

That gives me the opportunity to climb on my pet hobby horse: Portable versions of apps. I've got 38 programs running on this PC, 35 of them portables or standalones. It takes about ten minutes to install and configure my three installed programs on a new computer. Two of those even have settings files that can be copied over. The rest, just copy and paste, and they run like new. Takes me under 30 minutes to have a new PC up, running, and just like the older ones in every way.

Try it. You'll love it.

I now officially run zero insider builds because I had to reinstall Windows from scratch last night and I just don't feel like running an insider build so close to 23H2 being released. At least, I assume it is close :-). I still have not seen any official word from Microsoft on when to expect it.

Remember the good old days when you would get a release date from Microsoft well in advance?

That's nothing, wait until it starts rebooting every 3 hours. But don't wait too long, two weeks is all you've got left....

...Once your build reaches the license expiration date, your computer will automatically reboot approximately every 3 hours....

It doesn't work that way anymore (in years) and especially where most programs now require registry entries to work.

However I assure you that it worked for all my programs, with a simple copy and paste

I know that worked back in the days of DOS. Most if not all of my programs have entries scattered all over the Registry so a copy and paste won't work. Plus the fact that some of them have to be deactivated first.
