How to get document out of OneDrive

I don't use One Drive and don't have it installed. But I do use outlook email and it keeps coming up with "open this in one drive" when you click on preview for an attachment. Which I ignore. But on this occasion accidentally clicked on it instead of preview. It now says this document is saved in One Drive. I don't want it there. It's a confidential document and I don't want it saved anywhere except as an email attachment.

Can't see a way to "unsave" it in One Drive (and not even quite sure where it is). Can anyone assist please.

If you're using Office 365 you automatically have OneDrive storage. While not the same as outlook mailbox storage your document is saved on Microsoft servers. You'll need to sign in here with your email to remove it Sign in - Microsoft OneDrive

Thanks but I'm not using Microsoft 365. I just have Office Professional Plus 2021 installed. Unless the new outlook app is part of Office 365?

Are you signed into your computer with a Microsoft account? (email) There will be 5GB of OneDrive storage attached to that too

Log into the web onedrive and delete it from there

Sign in - Microsoft OneDrive

Login to OneDrive with your Microsoft or Office 365 account.

Yeah, just log into your microsoft account via the web.

Going here should take you right in.

You should see the file in there and you can delete, download, whatever you want with it.

Same here, and Outlook is part of the package. It can't be uninstalled without uninstalling the whole package.

Yes I am - so even though one drive is uninstalled on the laptop it can still save documents via email? Grr

Only if you allow it to, like when you accidentally clicked on the OneDrive prompt. For people who don’t want it, OneDrive is like an invasive rash that won’t go away.

I believe, that if Microsoft could get away with it, our user folders would only be accessable from the cloud (OneDrive) but as they can’t garantee a constant connection, they couldn’t get away with it.

Won’t be too long in the future where Windows is cloud based only. I know, it’s a radicle prediction, but…

Did you manage to delete your file from OneDrive, as dacrone suggested?

Yes but there's nothing there since 2020. There are quite a few things in there from years ago - maybe when I first experimented with using One Drive for sharing docs (which I quickly gave up on).

Oh boy this is getting confusing. In the One Drive folders I'm going through all sorts of historical things to sort out what to delete and check I've got a copy somewhere else. If I actually delete them, does it delete them on the computer as well? In one folder there were three word documents (the folder said 2020 but there's a document from 2023 inside). Downloaded one as I wasn't sure if I had a copy, then went to delete all three and that one wouldn't delete.

it shouldnt. also, you can remove onedrive from the save as menu (granted you sign out of office apps word, etc)

Actually it was in a folder marked 2013

Most of the folders were empty. There was a "vault" which I couldn't open without extra security but that turned out to be empty as well. Downloaded four email attachment files to laptop then deleted them - they still appear to be in my downloads folder on the computer but not sure if they'll still be in the email folders now.

Anyway my One Drive is now empty.

Thanks. I'm not signed into office. This is just using the new outlook app. However I do pay for outlook.com email annually and I noticed it stopped being called that at last renewal and was called Microsoft 365 renewal.

Yes - well not exactly sub folders to the inbox. Inbox is one folder and I have multiple folders with subject headings. Zillions of emails and attachments filed in them.
