How to get document out of OneDrive

Backup/copy the file somewhere and delete from OneDrive, you'll know soon enough what happens. @TraderGary might know.

use outlook desktop app. once that pulls them in, you wont lose them unless you delete them from the backend mail server

I'd already downloaded them from One Drive to Laptop downloads folder so they're still in there but no longer as email attachments in the email folders.

OneDrive is built in to the Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating system. The only way you can not have cloud OneDrive is to not use Windows 10 or 11. If you decide that you don't like OneDrive and delete the OneDrive app, you will still always have your default 5GB of cloud OneDrive. If you stop your sync to OneDrive, you can still use your 5GB of cloud OneDrive simply as storage. The only way you can then get to it is with your browser set to "OneDrve.live.com". You can then add and delete files on your own cloud OneDrive to your heart's content.

It was only on February 1, 2024, this year, that Outlook attachments started being saved to OneDrive. I looked at mine on that day and found I had literally hundreds of attachments and pictures that I had saved in Outlook over the years.

I've used OneDrive since it was first implemented as "SkyDrive" over 15 years ago. I have a Terabyte of cloud OneDrive included in my $69/yr Microsoft 365 subscription to Microsoft Office. I think that's an incredible value.

I keep all my data and photos in my local OneDrive folder and all my data is then kept mirrored and updated in cloud OneDrive in real-time. All my photos and data are then available on all my devices, my computers, and even my smart phone. Right now I'm only using 207.5 GB of my 1 Terabyte of OneDrive. It's my offsite backup of all my photos and data. I love it and wouldn't be without it.

That "somewhere" must be in your local OneDrive folder. Experiment for yourself. Make a little Text file and put it in your local OneDrive folder. Then look at OneDrive online in the cloud by typing "onedrive.live.com" in your browser. You will now see the file you just put in your local OneDrive folder in cloud OneDrive! Now delete the file in your cloud OneDrive. It instantly disappears from your local OneDrive folder. Now make a text file in your cloud OneDrive. Go look in your local OneDrive folder. The file is now there locally too.

The way OneDrive works is that anything you put in your local OneDrive folder is mirrored in the cloud and kept up to date. That's the magic of OneDrive and why some folks, myself included, find OneDrive of immense value.

1) disable that folder location from being synced with onedrive via the onedrive tasktray app settings. that will prohibit it form syncing to onedrive.
2) i dont use the web outlook. i use the desktop program as i need to keep pst files and Micro$ht decided they're going to deprecate pst for reasons nobody understands. that will get reversed once businesses begin an uproar in retaliation to that decision (such as law firms, etc)
3) @Hazel123, you can go into your onedrive web (the url i gave you earlier) and go into the recycle bin on there to recover whatever documents you may have lost by following my instructions. i should've asked if you were using the web or desktop outlook prior to telling you it wouldnt delete them. my mistake.

Just uninstall OneDrive with REVO, and then brush your hands together for a job well done. :-)
