I have successfully installed Win11 24H2 - 26100.1742 except for KB5044284. When the Cumulative Update KB5044284 downloaded, the install stopped at 40% and the system rolled back to the initial installed 24H2. I have set the "Get updates as soon as available" to No. However, I do not want KB5044265 raising its ugly head again. Is there a way that I can stop this update appearing?

Was that a typo: KB5044265

There is no KB5044265

Update failures can be troubleshooted.

    …still on a horse.
I do not want KB5044265 raising its ugly head again.
I'm not sure that target feature is what you want. That's to specify staying on the windows feature version that you are on with no updates to future versions. You want to get that update to applyand continue on with future 24h2 updates, Correct?
We've had a few reports from folks having issues with this update automatically applying that have found that installing this update offline is successful.
Go to MS update catalog and dowload 3rd one down and save to computer

1. Run troubleshooter-settings-system-troubleshoot-other troubleshooters-windows update-RUN.

2. Reset Windows update using Brink's tutorial Reset Windows Update in Windows 11 Tutorial

3. Run sfc after resetting update components. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer

4. CLEAN UP COMPONENT STORE - dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
Analyze and Clean Up Component Store (WinSxS folder) in Windows 11 Tutorial

5. Disconnect from internet and attempt to apply the update you downloaded and saved manually.

Hope it works for you.

you can use powershell to block individual updates:

Code:
$Updates = Get-WindowsUpdate
$Updates | Select Title,Description -Expand Identity | Format-List
Hide-WindowsUpdate -UpdateID "ID_HERE" -RevisionNumber 1
