Solved I need Win 11 back!

A new SS hard drive was installed on my 4 year old Samsung laptop. The tech installed Windows 10 Home but I want, NEED!, Win 11 back.

This is copied from Settings:
Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 22H2
Installed on 7/ 18/ 2024
OS build 19045.4651
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19060.1000.0

I finally got update settings to say it's ready to update to Win 11 but it will not install. Before the new hard drive, my system wouldn’t install the 23H2 either. It would just keep trying daily for months and I couldn’t pause the updates. I’m pretty sure (from my cryptic notes) I had Win 11 22H2 installed on 3/6/23 and it was great.

Download the ISO.

Double click on it to mount it as a virtual DVD.

Run setup.

Choose to keep your files and programs.

Note: you'll get a windows.old folder. You can use that to revert to 10, if you like. The folder will be mostly deleted after a time (10 days?).

Or, get some help from a friend. That may be your wisest course.

I would try an In-Place Upgrade like @bobkn said...

Just use the Win 11 ISO and follow the directions... Option #2 , just skip step #5

An In-Place Upgrade "compares" what is installed on the computer, with the Windows ISO image.
Then, it overwrites any corrupted Windows files, with clean copies from the ISO image.
This is how it "repairs" Windows while allowing you to keep your programs and personal files.






Including downloading the ISO, it should take about 45-50 minutes on your comp.
When it's done, all your programs, drivers and data will be there.

The In-Place Upgrade will not only upgrade you to Windows 11, but it will also repair any broken Windows files.



The 0x8007000d Win 11 install error is pretty much a generic, corrupt system files error.
This is why I suggest the In-Place Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
It will repair corrupt Windows files as it performs the upgrade.

Another option would be to run (in an elevated command prompt), these two commands, one at a time...

sfc /scannow

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth


They will also repair system files. Then you can try upgrading from Win 10 to Win 11, via Windows Update, again.

The layout is OK (Classic UEFI - GPT).
As suggested, do a in place upgrade downloading a Win 11 iso using MCT

I did MORE "ask Mr Google" research after this post and Win 11 is BACK!!! Two Background services and window update service were not running. I also found the windows update troubleshooter and ran that twice. Win 11 update downloaded again, installed and I rebooooooted! Took about 7 minutes! I'm a happy camper right now. File manager is back that way I want it, sort of... The One Drive folder is back and confuses me, I try not to click on it. I now have a gallery folder. How do I get the phtos to open maximized? AND How do I get the start button back to the left?

Those ran fine. But since my post, which I updated, I'm back to Win 11. Still tweaking
