I am currently getting error 0x800736b3 when installing the 2024-11 Cumulative Update, this seems to be related to something else that is installed but I am not sure.

When running the update as standalone installer, it just says the following update could not be installed and I have run it as a logged install, but I cannot make any real sense of the logs, it says DownloadJob failed to init a few times, but it does not say what it tries to download

I am wondering if I could take the update in steps to check what is really failing, like running each KB update individually

Make sure to execute Sfc /scannow command from admin command prompt.

Use Windows Update Troubleshooter.

  • Right-click on Start button and pick Settings
  • Go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot
  • Click on Windows Update and select Run the troubleshooter

Download Windows updates manually.

  • Go to the official Microsoft update catalog;
  • Enter a specific update code, for example, KB4481031
  • Select the correct version and click Download
  • Click on the link and Windows will update your computer

Resetting the Windows Update components can usually solve these types of issues.

Thanks for the tips, I have tried sfc first and then the Windows Update Reset script and neither fixes the issue with the Standalone Update package

I am beginning to suspect that the update fails due to a permission problem or whatever that does not even relate to Windows Update

You can also perform in-place upgrade of Windows 11. In-place upgrade is to use to replace the current operating system files on your computer. Unlike a clean installation of Windows, you can start a Windows in-place upgrade when your OS is still running. And an in-place upgrade can keep your files, settings, & apps during the upgrade process. You can perform a Windows 11 in-place upgrade is to use the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool. Make sure to select Upgrade this PC now and click Next. Follow the on-screen guide to perform a Windows 11 in-place upgrade.

I would prefer not to do that, the computer is my office laptop, so if I cannot resolve the issue with "simple" steps, I will probably give it to the support team and they should fix it

Error 0x800736b3 is ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_NOT_FOUND.

Part of your WinSxS folder is corrupted, and is not a problem with the update files. Your IT team should do a repair reinstall since your last successful update was Oct 2024.

I think the repair install option is a good option to try to resolve the issue
