Just a question really -- is the whole idea of "Secure boot" grossly overdone these days -- that thing came out quite a while ago when things like "rootkits" and hackers on PC's were generally more active. - It's scamming these days and identity theft, e-commerce fraud, fake websites, email scams etc that are the huge money earners these days and most OS's have sufficiently robust security in them to prevent anything other than really determined hacking which nobody is going to bother with to try and get a few dollars out of a kids computer. Big businesses have their own security systems too -- so to me the whole idea of secure boot just seems to be an unnecessary hassle - especially when you are testing / trialling different OS's. To me Secure boot is an old passed its sell by date thing looking for an application to justify its continued existence.

There is always the possibility compromised machines becoming part of pool of bots for example.

Is it really worth causing so much hassle for something that for 99% of HOME windows users won't ever have trouble with. I still think this "Secure boot" on Home / consumer grade computers is way OTT.

What hassle? The likely hood that you cannot disable Secure Boot to your liking is even smaller. There is nothing OTT about it.

It looks like Windows 11 is requiring TPM because it is an OEM build.

Me too and then I found out how to set the TPM to 2.0 in my PC's BIOS and I don't need to change that file.

TPM won't be required when Windows 11 becomes public sometime in Oct of this year.

If MS required TPM they would lose hundreds or even thousands of people with older pc's that don't support the TPM feature ....

Correct.. I suspect the leaked version was really for MS use only and they have their systems set up with the higher requirement.

I feel they might go the way of using TPM for higher security with Windows Hello, but allow you to not use these features if your system is too old.

My rig is only 2 years old and my motherboard does not support TPM John .....They will allow folks with out it to still upgrade I'm thinking.
