Yeah, my box is behind my monitors and against a wall. Nobody sees it, or looks in it. I've never really had a case on display.

My current case is the first ever side window case I have used. I didn't get the window because I wanted the window, but i found that all the good cases I wanted, all have the windows in them nowadays. I've also avoided the RGB stuff too. I don't like all the lights, and nor do I see the lights with my cases tucked away. That's just me.

When RGB first started to become a thing I thought, "Why would anyone want to convert their PC into a Disco?" All those flashing lights and crap have just got to be distracting. Then about 7 years later I built my ThermalTake unit for myself and selected blue and left it like that. What I find disturbing is when the lights are flashing and they're all sorts of colours. I mean... WHY?? I want to watch my monitor in peace. lol

After I built so many RGB systems for other people (customer gets what customer wants) I learned to tolerate it better. I can handle the tiny leetle rainbow on my AMD stock cooler because it's not set to flash or do any funky stuff. What I like about a glass panel is that I can read the indicator lights and Q-Code logger. I eventually took my fan shroud off my ThermalTake unit because it was the only way I could read the Q-code without having to open the door on the thing. Hmmm.. Maybe that's why it's drawing in so much dust?

Well, my "Cooler Master" H500M shown in the image wasn't cheap. I paid $190 for it. But that's a little cheaper that what I paid for my Cooler Master HAF X case ($226) back in 2010. I did a review on it here - Cooler Masters HAF X - Windows 7 Help Forums. Love that case. Stil have it.

No offense taken as we all have our opinions. For me, the only Corsair products I use are their AIOs, RAM, and fans. No issues here; I even have their Fan Commander and hub but that's because I use their RGB fans.

I also tend to be brand loyal, but that's only because the products I use consistently work. My "PC Brands"....

• Western Digital HDDs (24+ years),
• AMD (ATI) GPUs (22 years).
• Corsair - RAM (20 years)
• Gigabyte boards (13 years).
• Samsung SSDs (10 years). Also, their NVMe drives.

I stick to those brand items because they fit my needs, work, and haven't made me question them. That's me. YMMV

You've all gone over to the dark (aka RGB) side. Obviously you need some attitude adjustment.

I always liked the look of those HAF cases. Quiet, good airflow, and durable. Yup. I'm leaning more to Gigabyte myself now. If I were in the market for a new system board that would be the first place I'd check online. Have done many Gigabyte builds in my day and not one return. Can't say the same for ASUS. I vary on SSDs a lot depending on what I'm using it for. Most folks know Samsung makes the fastest NVMe these days. I absolutely detest Western Digital mechanical hard drives. (Unless of course they're the tried and tested ancient Velociraptors of yore. I think mine are still running strong after 14 years without issue.) I don't know if it's because WD SMR just sucks, or if they take too many bounces in shipping all the way to Northern Canada, or what; BUT in well over two decades of experience with the things I have to say I've never had a brand name fail on me so many times as Western Digital mechanical hard drives. These days I look for reputable Enterprise drives, Helium filled drives, and CMR drives when I want to use mechanical drives. They might cost more but failure rate is considerably lower.

I'm a bit divided on graphics cards. You can get good, bad, and oglee on either side of the fence. My modest NVIDIA 1070 has never given me any issues but my RADEON SAPPHIRE Nitro ++ has had a few hiccoughs. Once I got those ironed out it ran like greased lightning and for the price of that RX590 I really can't complain. Once again it's all

You do know Western Digital still sells CMR drives, right? My WD NAS has four 6TB WD Red Pros. All CMR drive

And there's nothing wrong with SMR drives other than they're not designed for RAID use. That said, all my drives have been CMR.

I didn't realize we had "history". Wouldn't surprise me if we talked about cable management previously, it's one of those things I have a love hate relationship with. (Depends upon the application).

In my defense though, I was responding to another person in that thread about case windows and I just so happened to mention that I love good cable management, but find that if you zip tie or velcro it all perfectly, it's often difficult to work with in the future. Also said that I used fully modular power supplies.

You quoted me, and replied, but I never posted again in that thread......so I'm not even sure if I even saw your response way back then.

i've also worked in numerous data centers on stuff like this, and this is where I find that cable management makes it look awesome...but when a cable craps out unexpectedly, it certainly isn't fun trying to fish it out of the bundles.

Stuff like this is why i never use zip ties on a computer. Cutting those off sucks. I use the spools of velcro now when I am going to bundle it up together so I can easily pull it off and put it back on.

For something like that, it would be a nightmare. Luckily a PC doesn't have a mass of cables and wires like that. And yeah, I use zip ties all the time. Not an issue.

But yeah, I remember those masses when I worked with the LAN guy back in my military days. It looks daunting but (somewhat) easy to trace.

I think it looks awesome! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and reminds me a little of the battery station out in the patch. (Back in my younger days when we were switching everything over to fibre optic.) Think I'll snag that pic to present to people who accuse me of building a PC that's too complicated. Ha! Not even close.

Smart man. (No pun intended.) Yep. I do know WD sells CMR drives but let me say this: I've had literally dozens upon dozens (and dozens) of WD mechanical drives fail on me to the modest tune of 1 Seagate drive to every 5 WD drives and I'm done playing their game. Apart from those Western Digital Velociraptors and one crazy WD Green utility drive that just won't die for whatever reason, I've had nothing but grief with WD mechanical drives. I have another techie pal living up this way who has pretty much had the same experience with Western Digital hard drives. I simply suggested that maybe the problem is SMR as all those blue and green and black drives are SMR. I've never owned a red one and I'll likely never buy one. Part of my reason for this was due to an experience I had with a brand new Caviar Black. Remember the days when those used to be very dependable hard drives? Well, mine failed within days of installation so I called up Western Digital. I had to haggle with the guy just to get a return and when he told me, "Well, okay but just this once" I decided I was done with Western Digital and I am. BTW that replacement also failed.

I remember when Western Digital made good quality, affordable hard drives but methinks those days are gone. I'm guessing my WD GREEN is still running because it's one of the old ones and it's being used strictly as a utility drive in a USB enclosure. Their SSDs are okay and I'm running 4 of those in RAID 10 without issue. They're not the fastest but they're alright. Same as their SN750 NVMe — not the fastest, but definitely not the slowest either. In fact it's a whole lot faster than the Corsair NVMe I bought. I'll give credit where it is due but I'm done with Western Digital on this count. That last bit of customer DISSERVICE sealed the deal for me. I also tell anyone that I build a PC for to never buy Western Digital mechanical hard drives and that the extra five bucks they'll pay for a Seagate drive of equal capacity is well worth the investment.* I realize the paltry sum of a few thousand dollars loss to Western Digital is nothing to them; nonetheless I'll likely keep warning folks about this until they stop making these garbage drives and sending them to Canada. "Okay, but just this once", doesn't wash with me when Western Digital keeps giving me garbage.

Anyway, I'm done ranting. To each their own.


*There is one exception to this and I must be fair. The Segate 500 GB slim jobs are absolute garbage. I don't know if they make them anymore but I certainly won't buy them anymore.

Crazy how that works, huh? I'm wondering if it has to do with the make and model of drives being purchased. I know Seagate isn't the best either but when it comes to budget building and mechanical drives I'd rather take my chances with Seagate. These days it should always be 1TB minimum IMO. Anything 500 GB or less always seems a recipe for disaster regardless of who makes them.

i cannot even remember the last time i had a hard drive fail at home. I've quit using them as I outgrew them, but flat out failures have been very rare for me.

I’d go full on SSD BUT in the early days with everyone telling us that they eventually die `(I know it’s more complicated than that) it’s stuck in my head and now I don’t want to put all of my trust in one.

I’ve been lucky over the past 3 or 4 years. Prior to that, I lost 20 years of work on a Seagate which put me into a spiral of depression. My fault for not adequately backing up my stuff.
