Important: Windows 11, version 24H2 is targeting Copilot+ PCs devices and devices that were previously using Windows Insider 24H2 builds.

Highlights​

  • This update addresses security issues for your Windows operating system.

Improvements​

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5039304 (released June 28, 2024). Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.
  • Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) protocol. This issue is related to MD5 collisions. For more information, see KB5040268.
  • [BitLocker] This update adds PCR 4 to PCR 7 and 11 for the default Secure Boot validation profile. See CVE-2024-38058 for more information.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5039333)- 26100.998​

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Odd. I used option three, and the site never offered me a choice of locations for the download. It just started downloading the ISO to my default folder for downloads. That means that when I want to put it on my Local Storage drive, I have to move or copy it.

You should also be able to right click on the blue Download button, and click on "Open link in new tab/window" to open a "Save as" type dialog to select where to save.

downloaded new ISO and made a usb just incase got to reinstall 24H2 for some reason

I'm noticing that windows keeps undoing my set chrome as the default browser. I have repeatedly had to go back and reset it plus edge keeps pushing itself to be the default browser.

I have to be honest, Windows has never undone my choice of browser. There are however some things/links that require Edge.

The latest Winareo Tweaker has some great new tweaks for Edge. Check the versions page for info

Pretty sure weve discussed hard coded Edge links in here before, where someone asked you the same question. Also, if you want CoPilot to work on your desktop outside of a 3rd party browser, I am certain Edge is needed.
