Solved Laptop overheating

A 9 month old laptop should not need disassembly. If you were able to disable S0 sleep as you said S3 sleep should have enabled.
Did you use this procedure. Disable Modern Standby in Windows 10 and Windows 11 Tutorial
It's still under warranty. Have you contacted the OEM.

Sorry but, newer notebook's fans are very accessible and removing them doesn't require
allot of knowledge in building PCs even for the average user. I just helped a member on
MSI forums remove and clean out both fans on a MSI notebook that was 5 years old.
We did have to replace one but, the other required just a cleaning and the notebook is working
as it should.

My question would be , are the fans still on or off when the notebook is in sleep mode.
IF the fans are off then, that would explain the heat but, not why background services
are still working even though the notebook is in Sleep. This is not how sleep is intended
to work. All processes should be stopped. Is there a program that would monitor background
services while the notebook is in sleep mode? I don't know of any but, maybe someone
here might.

I still think it's being caused by Modern Standby and not a dirty fan. If the laptop was over heating when the laptop was in use I would agree that the problem could be caused by dust. What I think what happened to my laptop is that Modern Standby was allowing some processes to run but wouldn't turn on the fan when the CPU started heating up. @Klaus I was lucky and my laptop still had S3 sleep mode. If you don't want the computer to turn off you could set the power option to do nothing, turn off the monitor or hibernate when the lid is closed.

If this is what you have then, look at what cmd reports:

That is most likely scenario. Fans don't work but, still connected to network so , background processes still working.
This would also mean that any of those processes could wake the PC/notebook from sleep.

Whether this will work I don't know but try using the Task Manager > App History.
Delete Usage History just before the Close Lid Shut down of choice.

When on again look and sort the relevant columns in App History. You can add extra info columns.

Review the Applications you have installed and their settings.

Things like like Wake On services for network & Apps etc.
Wireless and Ethernet Cards Device manager > Advanced Tab should have properties to disable Wake on Magic packet/pattern match.

Nothing happens on my laptop with similar hardware with Close Lid configured to Sleep, power brick still connected, wireless network on, no system mods, pretty much as bought apart from uninstalling trial Apps.
After approx 6 hours, no high temperatures, and what appears to be almost zero App usage.

And, that's how sleep should work. It always has from XP for me. I don't really use sleep on this
notebook as I have it on until I shut it down. Windows 11 with all of it's fan dangles has really
put a kink in the works.

Did you say you just leave your laptop on sleep mode and not shut it down?
If that is the case, it overheats due to poor ventilation around the laptop.
If your laptop is not properly ventilated, it can overheat when it's in sleep mode or when the lid is closed.
When you have the lid closed, heat gets trapped and just radiates back and just keeps building up.
Try to raise the bottom of your laptop if you haven't done so or keep the lid halfway open.

I think it's a ventilation problem caused by Modern Standby not turning on the fan while letting some processes run and heat up the CPU. My laptop stopped over heating once I disabled Modern Standby and started using S3 sleep.

When the CPU cooler on my desktop began to get noisy, where I could hear it speed up as I worked the CPU, I shut down the system, removed the cooling fan/heat sink assembly and thorough cleaned everything. I even added a couple of drops of high grade oil to the main bearing on the fan.
Once I had re-assembled everything, the fan was Silent! And, I could not hear it speed up as the CPU was worked harder, like during a virus scan.
That's just a little bit of annual maintenance. Much more difficult on a laptop.

I was given a very nice, BIG, HP Laptop with a cooling fan that was completely Frozen. How I dealt with that is another story for another day.

The Laptop is on cooling pad.

Does the cooling pad has its own power supply when the laptop is on sleep mode?

Yeah my Laptop is a Pain to get bottom cover off (10th Screw) still stuck, possibly stripped on mine, probably gonna have to have a Professional Open It & clean it at some point

Desktop at least the Heatsink Fan is removeable from the cooler and easier to clean vs a laptop that isn't easy on some of them to get open

Try to keep Room as dust free as i can though

As for Modern Standby i don't use that on mine, i set Monitor to turn off after so many minutes, but i don't close the lid til i'm done using it for the day typically--thankfully i haven't had any overheating problems with it so far that i can tell.

Some of the older notebooks are a bit hard to open but, with a bit of patience, all of them open
up. If you can get a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the screw in place then, take the screw driver
to keep unwinding the screw, it should come out without a pro looking at it and charging you for
bench work. The cleaning is fairly simple. I can walk you through it if the need arises.
