This time I used the AMD cleanup utility before installing Adrenalin 24.12.1. Everthing installed without complaint and the 3DMark test I ran did not complain about the driver either.

Ak

It's the best thing to do. I usually use Revo Uninstaller for uninstalling programs and their leftovers, but re Adrenalin I always use AMD's cleanup utility. But after I use it, I always delete everything related to Adrenalin in the AppData folders and also in my registry. This way I make sure nothing is left of the previous version.

Thanks for the update. Not sure why AMD bothered with this one. I won't be installing it seeing that the 24.12.1 drivers are actually quite good and stable.
Apparently because of problems with couple of games but expecting new, full version soon for new 9000 series GPU.

There's a nice new 5000 series for 3000 bucks.
😨

Here in New Zealand the 5000 series will have scary pricing. Anyway, I'm not planning any significant spending on the desktop PC in 2025. Just purchased a new really nice Asus laptop before Xmas.....

My Adrenalin software tells me I am up to date with 12.1.

Same, just wait for the official update to surface (eventually) on AMD's website.

I did not wait and downloaded it from guru3d.com. It failed to install, but did enough to screw up what I had. Luckily I had created a restore point before I tried to install it. 🍀😁

I noticed that today, Windows Update had an AMD Driver update available. I had already been using 24.12.1.

The actual driver version (32.0.13018.6) is higher than the driver version that is included in both the 24.12.1 drivers (32.0.12033.1030) as well as the 25.1.1 Optional drivers (32.0.12033.5010). It does not install any control panel, and after installing the new driver, the old control panel reports that it's no longer compatible.

Interesting to see Microsoft releasing a driver before AMD. I'm assuming that this must have been in response to a pretty serious issue that was found.

Correct.

But the iGPU has always used the exact same "Adrenalin Edition" drivers as other AMD GPUs, so does it really matter?

For what it's worth, I do actually "use" the iGPU, though not for gaming obviously. I run 6 monitors. My RTX 4080 only supports a max of 4. The other 2 are run from the iGPU.

"Adrenalin Edition" is not a driver but collection of drivers and control programs so numbering of actual driver is different.
It could be seen in Device manager too.

Each Adrenalin Edition release is absolutely tied to a specific driver version.

Example, from the Adrenalin Edition 24.12.1 release notes:

Package Contents

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 24.12.1 Driver Version 24.20.33.01 for Windows® 10 and Windows® 11 (Windows Driver Store Version 32.0.12033.1030).

That corresponds to the driver version shown in Device Manager when I had the Adrenalin Edition 24.12.1 drivers installed.

Yes but direct MS contains only one specific driver for that specific IGPU and Adrenalin contains for whole bunch of different ones.
