The reason it works is because the Standard (blue) boot menu pre-loads the default OS (the first on the list) prior to the menu being displayed. So when you select the default OS it goes immediately to the lock screen.

If you select an OS other than the default the computer needs to reboot.

I got tired of the reboot and switched to the Legacy boot menu which doesn't pre-load anything prior to being displayed.

I applied the latest update to v8.1 yesterday. Upon opening Macrium v 8.1 this morning, I got a pop up about updating to version X. I chose the never option in hopes of not being nagged about upgrading.

You can still buy a v8 one-time licence if you go through an intermediary such as Softpedia, as I have just done.


Note that as this counts as a business purchase you'll have to provide a company name as well as your own name. Whatever you type here appears as 'Licensed to:' in About Reflect, I typed Bree. For all my other purchases direct from Macrium it shows my personal name as the licensee.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Debating on sticking with Acronis or resume using my Macrium Reflect 8 Home Edition, then maybe for Christmas or Birthday decide on upgrading to Macrium Reflect X possibly Annual plan, though not 100 percent sure as yet on that aspect

Of course i could upgrade to Macrium Reflect X now if its wise thing to do, then just have to get Acronis uninstalled from all 3 systems. Hmm

Why not use both? There are some members who routinely use two different types of imaging software, you can never have enough backups :wink:

You don't have to install both, you could make one image by booting from the rescue media....

Assuming you've had Reflect v8 Home for some time, then you have two options: trading in the v8 licence for 50% off an annual plan for life, or buying a 3 year plan for the price of 2 years, with the added bonus of keeping you v8 licence for further use. See:

Wise thing to do? Maybe, maybe not, depends on whether its new feature are useful to you. Reflect X only has two things that set it apart from v8. The first is that it's faster, the second is that it can resume an interrupted backup, though that's an option you'd have to turn on, it's off by default.

#3 for me is the ability to easily exclude folders from an image backup. I have not yet upgraded, but I do plan to do so with this being reason #1 for me.
