jonnboy1976, have you tried to reset the Windows Update using Command Prompt ? If not try this :

Type the following commands to stop the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), Windows Update service, and Cryptographic service, and press Enter on each line:

net stop bits
net stop wuauserv
net stop appidsvc
net stop cryptsvc

I thought I would chime in with my own tests installing Win 11 with a bootable USB drive using Rufus, which enables the user to easily bypass TPM requirements. These are all with Win 10 license keys previously activated.

- Lenovo ThinkPad T540p (i7-4800MQ): I have been running Windows 11 since April 2022 with no issues.
- Lenovo ThinkPad T530 (i7-3610QM): Works well
- Panasonic Toughbook CF-C2 (i5-4310U): Works well
- Dell Inspiron 15 7537 (4th gen i7): Works well

Next up is a PC with an i7-7700K. I expect it to be no different. I find it interesting that Lenovo released drivers for Windows 11 for devices that don't meet the Microsoft CPU requirements. As well, I have some Ciara SFF desktops with an ASUS Q170M-C motherboard installed. On the motherboard support site, it is listed as being Win 11 ready, despite being limited to 6th and 7th gen Intel CPU's. They have i5-6500's installed.

Really? That's pretty cool - first time I heard of anyone releasing Win 11 drivers for technically unsupported hardware. Thanks for sharing this info.

Lenovo have some for even older devices than that. I have a Thinkpad T430 ( i5-3320M) that they have at least one Windows 11 driver for....

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

I would have to think that the driver update is lumped in with other devices that are on the official "supported list." Either way, encouraging to see.

Who knows, maybe Lenovo is acknowledging that users are going to find a way to use Windows 11 on legacy devices one way or the other ;) I like to live in a fictional reality.

Windows 8/10 drivers are simply stated as Windows 11 drivers because they also work in Windows 11. They are the same 8/10 drivers, no new.

Mostly true. It's true that windows 10 drivers will work on 11 as well, but there are some new driver models for Windows 11 that will not work on 10. For example, I'm using new network adapter drivers that won't work on 10.

I know that being a little nit-picky but I thought it's worth pointing out.

While that is true, I've not seen any other OEM accnowledge this to be the case, or offer Windows 11 as an option in the search on their support pages for unsupported devices. Perhaps Lenovo is one of the few that goes the extra mile and tests them in W11 on their older machines?

No, they do it on purpose to make us think their computers are Windows 11 compatible while the competition isn't. They know many of us will install Windows 11 anyway and want to make a positive impression by supplying Windows 11 drivers. It's all marketing.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

They don't test them themselves, they rely on our feedback either directly to Lenovo or in forums like Elevenforum. If a model is not fully working in Windows 11 they won't bother to fix it, unless it can be done by a different driver.

Of course they test the drivers, it is just that very often some bugs slip through.

I do have to wonder if Lenovo has a test lab with all the older hardware where they update the devices to Windows 11 to see what happens?

No, some thought in selecting for Windows 11 has been made. They show a restricted set of downloads for Windows 11 for my unsupported T430. The power management is the only driver in the list.....

The power utility is not a driver. If there is nothing else in Windows 11 page, then they don't truly provide support for Windows 11.
