Let's install Windows 11 on incompatible hardware

99.999% of what I've read in this thread, goes right over this old Tech's head.

There must be some very sophisticated devices out there, computer controlled even, to drive a nail.
I just use a hammer! And, if needed, get a bigger hammer!!!

Now, as for installing Win-11/Pro/64 on a very old system, Bios Date 2008, I just use a three step process.
1. Download a suitable ISO from a Trusted Site.
2. Using the latest version of Rufus, burn the ISO to a Flash Drive of sufficient size.
3. Use the Flash Drive to boot up the PC and proceed with the install. (skip the password, that can be done later if required)

Then it's just another Windows install, with hours of tweaking, tuning, and installing programs. I've installed Win-11 at least six
times so far, and each install gets a little bit easier. I can have a fully functional PC in less than three hours, sending email, surfing
the Internet, and playing DVD movies.

Trying to install Windows 11 on an Apple Macbook Pro 13" early 2011 (model A1226, aka Macbook Pro 8.1). It has an 2nd generation Intel Core CPU (don't remember which), 4GB RAM and it is officially an unsupported computer for Windows 11 (its own Bootcamp version was designed for Windows 7). I booted with a Windows 11 UEFI USB which was created by Rufus and I had selected to bypass all compatibility checks. It installed Windows 11 without any issues. I then used the command oobe\bypassnro to bypass network connection requirement and I could create a local user. I installed the official chipset drivers from Intel and then used Brigadier to download the appropriate Bootcamp version and install the rest drivers. All drivers were installed and working appart from the audio card. In Device Manager there was an explamation mark in High Definition Audio Controller. No driver I installed could make this specific device work so it would then detect the audio card and finally install the audio driver. I could use a USB sound card, but anyway. If anyone knows how to fix it, please post.

PS: Bootcamp demanded Windows 7 to run, so I had to change Compatibility Settings to Windows 7 and Run as Administrator to make it work.

So, I clean installed Windows 11 on my daily-driver PC, and I followed these steps:

Used the registry methods:
HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig\BypassTPMCheck > 1
HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig\BypassSecureBootCheck > 1
HKLM\System\Setup\LabConfig\BypassCPUCheck > 1
During setup, I used oobe\bypassnro to bypass Windows 11's Microsoft account required account.
It worked perfectly with no issues.

You can also copy the attached .bat file which automatically sets these values in Registry. When in Setup screen, press SHIFT+F10 to open a command prompt and then run this .bat file. Assuming there is an new unallocated hard disk or SSD, your flash drive should be C:. If the disk contains an old installation, then it should be D: or E:. You can run the following code:

DIR
bypass11.bat
exit

The first line changes the focus to drive C: The second shows all contents to confirm it is your USB flash drive. If it isn't execute D: and then DIR again. Try E: or F: until you see your flash drive. The third line runs the .bat file to patch the Registry and the last line closes the command prompt so you can proceed with the installation. I know it involves typing commands, but to me it looks easier than modifying the Registry directly.

There are so many ways of accomplishing this. For example, you could also use a very simplified unattended answer file that does nothing more than apply those registry entries automatically but does not interfere with the rest of the installation.

Not really. Once you have the answer file, drop it on your install media or ISO image. That is literally it.

You don't have to open a command prompt; you don't have to run anything. It is 100% transparent and invisible to the user. In fact, with the same file you can take it one step further to automatically create a local user account. In that scenario, once again, the user notices almost nothing. They proceed through setup as normal, but the bypass of Windows requirements is done automatically as is the creation of a local user account. Everything else stays the same.

Other than creating that answer file the first time, I find it even easier than the other methods.

But, if you have never worked with unattended setup, then I agree. There would be some initial learning curve to create that file the first time. Some people might find it worth the effort, others not so much.

For me, it's almost more about the thrill of learning how to do it more than anything else

I think in Ventoy, you can put the unattended file on the drive then tell Ventoy that that is an unattended file to a specific ISO file

Nice. I think that for the majority of people, tools like Ventoy, Rufus, etc. are the way to go. For me, I have an odd quirk that makes me want to try to accomplish tasks like this using no third-party tools, mostly just to see if it can be done

Windows 11 running on old computers...

Happy April Fool's Day! Of course it is not possible for all these old systems to run Windows 11, these are images with the respective system palettes. I wanted to see how Windows 11 would look in these systems. Pretty awfull in fact. Thanks God our current graphics cards have million of colors. Also they would be VERY slow and unusable.

With a Virtual PC you don't need to do any of that -- you can use TPM emulation, whatever virtual graphics hardware you need and can set the CPU topology to one that W11 accepts. You can also have gpt, and secure boot even on an old MBR BIOS based machine too.

This passes the test for example on an old HP envy laptop with i5 Gen 6 processor (fails on physical install but passes as a GUEST).

While IN the Guest this is what Windows Hardware sees. :

Of course on really ancient hardware the graphics quality will depend on what the host is capable of delivering even when using "Virtual graphics adapters". But running 480 X 640 VGA on a huge monitor isn't nice !!!!!! . Note though even 15 year old computers are quite capable of running 1920 X 1020 graphics or similar.

I have read on another thread that no compatibility check is done when virtual hardware is detected. Old systems with proper WDDM drivers can do 1920x1080 but may stutter. For really old systems 1280x720 or 1280x1024 is a safer bet.
