Location of Windows 11 Settings Icons?

Anybody know where these particular icons are stored in the system files? I have searched all of the DLLs I can think of (imageres, shell32, DDORes, etc).

Hi there, welcome to the forum 🙏

There are many stored icon locations but I don’t know where you would find the default Windows Start Menu app icons. They are possibly encoded into the exe, or an application or Windows system dll?

On a very rare occasion, I hit up copilot

For instance: Where is the Windows 11 Bluetooth icon stored?

“The Bluetooth icon in Windows 11 is typically part of the system tray icons and is managed by the Bluetooth settings. The actual icon file is embedded within system files, such as `bthprops.cpl` located in the `System32` directory.”

Correct? I couldn't tell you.

I'm guessing the icons are somewhere in C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel, probably locked away in the executable!

imageres.dll & imageres.dll.mun are two different files. As you only mentioned imageres…

??? I wasn't asking about the desktop icons. Unfortunately, the icons I am after are not located anywhere listed in the article.

you sure they aren't svg or png somewhere? look in system32\@ and you'll see a handful that are png. that combined with the fact that Microsoft was going to implement animated settings icons back in 2022 makes me wonder what format they are actually stored in

Only animated icons I relate to are the Smileys used in browsers. Then there's the file that holds the available icons for Properties of a shortcut in C:\Windows\System32\SHELL32.dll.
