Hi all,

I wonder if someone could assist with the below query.

I have a home user who has been using Windows 11 fine. However she has an AOL email account which is causing no end of problems especially around app verification. So my idea was to give a new outlook.com address. So I've created the new email account then gone into the windows 11 to change the default primary account. However, it won't allow me to add the new address as an alias as it tells me the address has already been taken. I think I made a mistake by creating the new account separately. Ideally I want to keep the current windows profile as it has all the files, settings and office licencing. Does anyone have any ideas or am I stuck in creating a new profile and singing in with the new email address?

One option you could use is this below so she doesn't lose anything from her account profile on the computer.

First switch to a local account.

That's well worth a shot. Can I ask a side note, as she also has an office 2021 license attached to the AOL account. How easy is it transfer that to the new account?

I would use Brink's tutorial and change her to a local account and stop there.

Her office license is tied to her MS account which is her AOL email address. You cannot move a license from one account to another. You might try contacting Microsoft support to see if they can help getting an alias set up since you are having problems. You have to jump through a few hoops to get to a live person but start here.

She should be able to sign in to Office with her AOL Microsoft account whether she stays with a local account or switch to the Microsoft account with the Outlook email address.

Thanks for everyones advice. I'm thinking of adding a new alias to her AOL Microsoft account (with a brand new outlook address). Then I'll make the new outlook address the primary address. I'm hoping this will be enough to fool the office licensing into thinking it's the same account. 🤞
