For some reason the lower case Z has stopped functioning on my keyboard, up until a few days ago it was fine. Every other function using the key works its just the lower case that has no response. I've tried all of the fixes on the web but none of them work. All the other keys are okay. It's got me baffled

Winver is 24H2 build 26.100.2605

I doubt it is Windows related but rather a worn out keyboard. Try plugging in another keyboard to isolate the issue.

This could happen if you remap a key, such as z -> a non printed function or key type.
shift + z would still work and produce a Z.

Good plan 🙏

Also, can you pop the Z key cap off and see if it’s full of dust or cookie crumbs? Santa may have been using your PC.

Often a cause of keyboards failing can be due to dust or debris. A can of air pointed at the keyboard from a decent distance so as not to blow all the keycaps could help.

I had an issue with a rather expensive keyboard repeating keys that I pressed, this helped.

    …still on a horse.
The strange thing is, this has happened twice now. This current keyboard is fairly new. Previous to this I had a corsair keyboard which had the same problem so I sent it back. This is so strange

I would temporarily boot of a Linux USB and if the fault is not present, it is a Windows problem. You could first try Safe Mode.

I bet it is due to some program you have installed.

What is really strange is the fact that if I press the key, it opens the Nvidia overlay as it should. It's as if the key works but it just doesn't like showing lower case. The only program I have installed is Microsoft Flight Sim 2024
