The MS article kind of implies that secure boot isn't mandatory but that could change.
It says if you use SB then you should apply the mitigations

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Macrium said that they will be providing security updates to V8 Free until Jan 2024. Can we assume they will be releasing an update that will help in creating USB recovery boot media with the protocols for PCs with the revocations installed?

As I understand it (which may not be that well ;)) it's Microsoft that need to provide updated WinPE and WinRE that will be bootable after the revocations are installed. Macrium's rescue media builder just uses the WinPE/WinRE from MS, and I'd hope that all we'd need to do would be to build new rescue media after MS make the changes.

The files for WinPE are downloaded by Reflect from Microsoft and kept for later use in building the rescue media.

For WinRE the files are obtained from the currently installed Windows. More on how Reflect finds and uses PE or RE here:

Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)​

Files for the Windows Recovery rescue environment are pre-existing and located on the local file system.

The folowinng folders, and sub-folders are searched for file WinRE.wim

C:\Windows\System32\Recovery
<ALL VOLUMES>\Recovery
If multiple copies of WinRE.wim are found then each WIM is examined and the WIM that contains the most recent Windows OS is copied to the Staging Area.

I'm on a wait and see approach. I bought a 4 pack of licenses after having used free for a long time to support the company. My current 8.x versions work great, and while I am out of support, that's fine...i don't require support. I assume these copies will last me a long time yet. And I see that Macrium has announced that they will be releasing a multipack discount license, so will be waiting for details on that.

I figure I have years yet to figure this out.

I buy a new computer every few years and the cost of the current Windows is included in the cost of the computer. Even though I don't actually buy a copy of Windows from Microsoft, I'm still indirectly paying Microsoft for it.

I just checked the list and it came with no OS. Just an USB stick to use for a restore. But like all businesses It could have been included in the price but If it was it was a minor charger and only a one time deal.

Same. My TechNet keys still activate Windows 11 directly perfectly fine lol.

It's the same with my last purchase of the Dell XPS listed in "My Computers". My Windows 11 Pro at Dell's OEM price would have been only a minor fraction of the computer's $3,200 original cost.

I usually get the fever to buy a new computer about every two or three years. I forget when I bought my newest desktop. My last three purchases were mini PCs. The first one was bought to steam my content to all of our TVs and devices. Our son like the idea of streaming so I gave it to him and bought a Beelink mini PC to replace it. I liked the Belink so much I bought a newer one to replace the laptop I was using in my man cave.
