Process Explorer from system internals will show what is using nonpaged pool

If you don't really need defender, get rid of it. It's the biggest resource hog.

Set a... large.... static.... page file size.

Use a memory cleaner to free up ram.

Maybe for a short term solution. Would not suggest to do this consistently to a SSD. I overload(to pagefile) my memory a lot with virtual machines during testing, and its burning trough the SSD lifetime. Best is to increase/buy memory and not to exend your drive for memory usage.

Good point but I can't add ram. It's soldered to the board and no open slots.

Where did you get that info?

I used Hard Disk Sentinel, but can also use Crystal Disk Info.
Ahh solderd memory =(.

Did you btw already disable any services from windows that you not need?
Did you use the O & O shutup that was suggested earlyer?
Best way is to disable/turn off some things, so you have less running things in the background, leaving more space for applications in memory.

Yep and only 4gb.

As best as I can, but I need to research and study services more. I disabled and deleted defender and all its companions.

Did you use the O & O shutup that was suggested earlyer?

Yep and explorer patcher.

I like Hard Disk Sentinel, however that one is not free, and get a 10/15seconds popup while starting it non-payed. The other is free. Both read-out the same information.
You can bring the services list down to about 50services, and still can work OK. My system runs with 38/40 normally, but i am using my own systemtray application to trigger windows updates / store / defender and other features, and when i am done with those windows features my app will automaticly close the services and disables them/prevents them from starting. If i don't do it that way windows will get dorky and things won't work properly.

This always happens for me when windows store did not update the packages on the same time, if that happens go to store, update those, and taskbar search should work again.

I need to go through the services one by one, googling them, reading, make a decision, but it's such a gigantic job I never get to it.

The laptop with 4gb ram has never been updated and defender is deleted. I had a problem playing youtube videos and not having enough ram left over for anything else but discovered the quality was set to auto which meant 1080p. When I turned it down to 720 then everything is fine. I started a thread about it here which went pages and pages and no one thought of turning the video quality down lol. It only dawned on me after we started debating whether a pagefile on a SSD is fast enough to substitute for ram. I figured it just needs to be fast enough to serve out 30 frames per second, then I realized it depends how big a frame is. Other than than that there are no issues so not a lot of motivation to comb through the services.

@Win711 higher quality video is depended on cpu/gpu not so much on mem usage. My olders laptop/pc's can only handle 1440p with 2080p it is like a fast slide show.

The mediaplayer app that came with win11 will play 8k videos fine on that laptop but VLC won't. It's like a slide show, like you said.

But when ram is maxed and it's forced to use the pagefile then it does make a difference cutting the quality in half. With barebones win11 it's using 50% of ram, then play youtube at 1080 and that's about all that can be done with it. If I tried to open anything else it would freeze. Adblockers would stop working. Apps would just freeze. But reducing to 720 allows me to open as many apps as I want in any order without anything freezing. CPU never got above 10%, so it has to be memory. I think it has 4 cores at 3ghz so it should have plenty.
