I have just looked at this, and indeed you can switch to classic 365 at the same price.

However, the part that is not clear is that I have a permanent 30% discount, and I am quoted around £73 with MS 365+AI (with 30% off) but £79.99 for MS Classic 365 - no 30% discount applied. I need assurance from MS that my permanent 365 discount is still applied before I change.

MS should be ashamed at the bully tactics for forcing AI on us. I doubt anybody would disagree with a modest inflation increase but AI should have been an optional payment!

If I was still working doing policy development, running an IT team, and heaps of other complex tasks AI would've been great. But I don't need it as I'm retired. But MS and other tech outfits are promoting this as if it is the greatest invention since the abacus when AI isn't of real use for everybody.

Once again MS is making us opt out instead of opting in. My subscription runs out the beginning January. I was renewed before the price increase. I'm going to wait until Dec and then switch plans.

I have a standalone version of 2021 office and will stick with that. If I need it on a spare computer I'll consider getting another copy, now my Word 2013 is apparently no longer supported. But that did me good for 10 years. So I see that as a good investment. If it costs £100 ish and lasts 10 years. I only need basic office - word mostly. I do wonder though, if in 5 years time, it will become subscription only and no standalone versions any more (similar to photoshop).

I'm not too bothered here. Microsoft365/Office365 has been the same price for 12 years. Seems that every other subscription type system I have has had numerous jumps. (my health insurance, my home insurance, my cable tv, my streaming services, my amazon prime subscription, my amazon music subscription, my verizon wireless bill, etc.

Since I make use of the OneDrive storage space, Office/Microsoft 365 has been a no-brainer for me since 2017. i may revert my account down to the classic version as I'm not making much use of Co-Pilot yet. But we are doing a ton with AI at work and I can clearly see a lot of potential benefits from the technology.

i think that AI is enough of a game changer in the industry and will continue to be a big deal for the foreseeable future, that increasing the price of the suite seems like it's justified.

Although I think MS could have handled the comms a bit better than they did my Microsoft 365 Business Standard (without Teams) subscription for me is good value.
I need Exchange Online hence the business subscription.

I'm perfectly happy with Office, except the gutdim bloated UI that can no longer be altered!!!
As a Desktop user, if I can navigate small buttons in Explorer and everywhere else, then I can navigate small buttons in Office!!!
I don't need the big fat, beached whale, 'no more jelly donuts for you', UI!!! :facepalm:

It appears it has become contagious amongst the dudes and dudettes who are the MS devs to make the GUI's of Office and Windows more confusing and harder to use and tweak.

You used to be able to set these to false and get rid of the fat UI..., it no longer works!
(I guess that's why they're called 'Experiments'!!!)

The only Microsoft subscription I pay is an annual £14.95 for outlook email. Thst hasn’t gone up in price for over a decade (dare I say that?!) but I notice now on my account it is called 365 basic instead. What exactly is 365 basic?

Similar in 2024 LTSC, if you open Publisher, it bumps your whole suite back down to 2021!

Publisher is not included in 2024, but, it still resides on my PC, so yeah..., I guess you do get penalized, so to speak!
