another question, what is microsoft account doing, or more specifically, what is it doing i don't want it to do
1. It uses the first five characters of you email address as your user name.home version, another question, what is microsoft account doing, or more specifically, what is it doing i don't want it to do
The EASY way assuming it's not W11 home but W11 pro is at the OOBE setup at "Is the computer used for school/workplace or home" choose school / workplace and then at login selection choose join domain. (You don't need to have an actual domain). Then computer prompts for a name and continues the OOBE with a local account. --- Job done Q.E.D -- no messing around with registry hacks, custom Rufus iso builds etc.I have a new hp laptop arriving next week, hp, i5, windows 11, how do i not activate microsoft account during setup
You were clearly coached to hate MSA. It is not bad, it improves security and privacy.home version, another question, what is microsoft account doing, or more specifically, what is it doing i don't want it to do
Can you explain how it improves security and privacy? You were clearly coached to hate MSA. It is not bad, it improves security and privacy.
For starters, it protects user's account, local account can not be even password protected, it can be bypassed in seconds.security
You have control over your data and MS is required by law to obey your wishes, unlike when you are just being tracked.privacy
Have you ever tried to sign into a PC where the password is unknown? I had to try for my cousin after her husband died. Can you how it improves security and privacy?
if using a local account, just be sure that you have other security precautions in place. lock down built in administrator, lock down POST boot menu, lock down BIOS, etc. if random people cannot boot from a device/installation media they can't reset your password. its not hard to lock down/prevent those security loopholes... just not stuff the average user ever thinks aboutHave you ever tried to sign into a PC where the password is unknown? It's very easy to reset the password of a local account, but none of the hacks for doing so will work on a Microsoft account - his was an MS account.
That is the problem, 99.99% users are unprotected when using a local account, yet they insists on using it, because they read that they should. BIOS protection can be reset by using BIOS flashback update or manually replacing BIOS chip.just not stuff the average user ever thinks about
People using iPhone or Android automatically login to the account, but for social reasons, they hate MSA. They were told to.
1.yes - this is annoying but nit a big deal.1. It uses the first five characters of you email address as your user name.
2. It places your User folders on OneDrive with a very limited amount of storage space.
3. If I'm not mistaken, it also turns on Bitlocker by default.
I always setup my new computers with a local account first and then switch to my MS Account.
