When you first sign in or set up a device with a Microsoft account, or work or school account, Device Encryption is turned on and a recovery key is attached to that account.

1. It's easier to not have to change a user name than it is to have too. If I'm not mistaking, to get rid of the user name completely one has to create a new user account.
2. That may be be true but how many people just click away without reading. I'm sure MS feels that most people do. It should be a opt in and not a opt out choice.
3. This I don't know from experience. Only going by post from others that found out the hard way that it was turned on. The same with Device Encryption.
