Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021: Lifetime License for $49

I have do have the Microsoft 365 Family subscription and receive (infrequent) emails from MS saying that I have not used up my entitlement of shares yet > invite up to x others! I wonder what MS' motivation of that would be. I am guessing that some of the 'others' may be enticed to get their own subscriptions > in turn they invite 'their others' etc. > subscribers getting more subscribers for MS.

Also, if I cancel, I am guessing that MS will offer a free month to the 'others' or 'download your data from OneDrive within 3 months' or something like that.

I am not sure of all the above, though. If anyone has gone before us, let us know!

On the official Microsoft 365 Family subscription, it says Family in the name of the subscription but the description only mentions '... share with others'.

Is there anyone here who has shared their subscription with non-family others? Any security/privacy concerns? Also any thoughts about when the time comes for you to terminate the subscription, but the people you once invited to share, may not agree?
No privacy concerns. You invite an email address and they get a link to download and install the software. You don't see any of each others data.

If you terminate the sub, theirs would also deactivate the product. Bit it doesn't wipe out their files....but deactivates the software to edit and create new files.

Oh wait, I think it means that I can use multiple copies of my office suite on my devices now at the same time. Previously, I was limited to only being able to use one of my installs at any given time. So, if I had it installed on my Windows desktop and my Macbook, I couldn't be using Word on both machines simultaneously. Seems I can now use it on 5 devices at a time. The same bullet point is showing on the Microsoft 365 Family tab too.

------------

This is the whole point of leaaing 365 versus a paid version. You get a lot of flexibility with Office 365 including cloudspace. For some (me included) the ability to install on multiple pcs, 1TB cloudspace, Office kept up to date etc. makes the lease cost a bargain.

If your usage requirements are such than one pc is ok, and yiu do not require cloudspace or updates, then sure buying a licence could be preferable.

In the end, all users have different requirements, but those who slate leasing as a puely cynical exercise for MS to make money are just being ridiculous. MS does not force you to lease. The cost of leasing is 1-2 pintls of beer a month - hardly excessive.

With MS you have a choice - compare that with sad Acronis who are forcing you to lease to get benefits.

I have an email client that I like but it does popup the occasional ad, and it will cost £2.50 per month to remove these annoying ads. In terms of bangs per buck, Offoce 365 wins big time.

You've nailed it. Windows 11 is not a step forward by any means.
For me, it's a backward step. I've been fighting with it ever since I installed it on a single computer.

That's why all my other computers are staying with Windows 10.

This is interesting. My "new" (second hand) laptop had this installed - I think. In addition to the usual trial of Office 365 that was installed - there was also an icon for word in the menu (on Windows 10 and this was after resetting everything so it was fresh). When I clicked on the Word icon it opened up "Microsoft Professional Plus 2019" And showed all the office apps available. I really wasn't sure if it was genuine and noted it said Microsoft Professional Plus - and not Microsoft Office Professional Plus. Anyway after removing apps I didn't want - including the Office 365 trial - the icon for word disappeared - along with any other options for "Microsoft Professional Plus". So it's gone.

Now as I did a full reset of the laptop after getting it, assume this must have been pre-installed. I don't actually need it as have Office 2013 and happy with that.

I criticize MS a lot, but, in my mind, Office remains second to none.

I just wish they would come up with some powerful PDF tools within Office...,
... they'd probably get into a cat fight with Adobe over that though!

Yeah, my dad installed Windows 11 on his laptop (kind of hates it) but I had to do an in-place upgrade after because of issues. Office 2016 works great on there, I've even heard of people using older copies as well.
