Guess good thing i decided in July 2024 to go ahead and make the switch to AMD Ryzen based motherboard, processor, DDR5, and associated parts. Previously used Intel 10700 on Older Motherboard

And didn't MS actually lower the CPU requirements recently? Kind of unannounced. CPU and TPM requirements

    I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.
Microsoft also updated the 24H2 support list for AMD CPUs. Strangely they didn't include the AMD 9000 series CPUs that came out last year.

BTW, the updated list also doesn't include the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D CPU that came out a year ago. That may be because the Ryzen 7 5700X3D is probably a lower clocked Ryzen 7 5800X3D which is on the list.

The list seems to have switched back to the previous requirements (dated March 1, 2024).

Are others getting that?

Regardless, the requirement was for newly built PCs with 24H2. I doubt that MS is refusing updates for PCs with 8th and 9th generation Intel CPUs.

Right, seeing that even an Intel i5 7500 runs Windows 11 and was never in this list.

How the hell does it know its a new machine. Lets say your hard drive crashes and you have to reinstall fresh with new license or a cheap oem license will it refuse?!

I'm running a Comet Lake processor but the way I read that MS link is it's for OEMs to determine which processors may be used in "new" windows devices. That said I would say the article is meaningless as far as we're concerned.

Agreed! The list is specifically for OEMs, listing the processors allowed to be used in their new machines.

  • Some reports mistakenly claimed Windows 11 24H2 has dropped support for Intel 8th, 9th, and 10th-gen CPUs
  • Microsoft has made it clear this isn’t the case

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

To be fair, the truth is somewhere in the middle. And I bet this is Intel's idea. The line where... "supposedly this was directed at OEM" is plain stupid/superfluous. Except for No-Name OEMs - all the major OEMs switch/ed to newer generations as soon as possible. Seriously, which major OEM still builds systems with 10th gen CPUs or lower in 2025?! None. Same can be said even about 11th Gen at this point. Maybe there's some 12th Gen in stocks to be cleared out, but prety sure most production lines - are packing laptops with 13th Gen and 14 Gen (in the limits of their stocks) - and prepering for next Gen. That being said, the removel of Intel 8th, 9th & 10th Gen Processors from that list - has a difrent purpose (than a stupid recomendation for OEMs). Which is actually not that hard to figure out - even staring in our faces: Windows 11 24H2 is more than lickely - the last Windows supporting that line of CPUs. So yes, Intel 8th, 9th & 10th will still run on 24H2 - even tho, so far there's no oficial iGPU driver for this line CPUs and 24H2.

As for next Windows build - maybe even Windows 12, Microsoft might include stricter hardware restrictions - cause Intel wants/needs more sells of their latest CPUs (with A.I. support and such). But hey, there's plenty of Linux distribution - with their doors wide open - and probbably at least 10 more years of support. 😉

Next date of decision for me will be 11-11-2025 (Win 23H2 EOL).

If I can't install Win 24H2, on Xeon V4 CPU based Machine, via Rufus or Registry ploy, then I'll purchase Dell 5820, for approx £250 GBP.

Pretty simple, no drama needed.
