Hi. For several weeks we have been offered 24H2 on all of our 4 PC's. I took the plunge and updated 2 of them to 24H2 without any problems. On one of our other two pcs, a Dell Inspiron 5400 AIO after the January 23H2 update (5 days ago) I am no longer offered 24H2. This PC has the Intel Smart Sound Audio Driver v10.29.0.7799 which is not the driver with the compatibility hold (10.29.0.5152). Is it likely that it will reappear on its own. I don't want to mess about with the PC if it's an MS issue. Would be grateful for any advice. Thanks. Mitch.

Just download Microsoft Installation Assistant and use that to update.

Thanks. I wax wondering if MS put a compatibility hold due to the Smart Sound driver (although it's not the problem one) and 24H2 disappeared after the Jan cumulative updates. I believe you can check for a hold in the registry but I'm not sure how to find it. Thanks again.

I hadn't used this pc for a couple of days and checked for updates but still no 24H2. I can use the Installation Assistant to upgrade but before I did this I wanted to see if there was a reason that 24H2 is no longer offered. It was offered for around 4/5 weeks before I installed the Jan Cumulative Update and then it disappeared. The only thing I can see is the Smart Sound driver issue but the one installed is higher than the problem version. 24H2 isn't listed in Optional Updates. Would be grateful if anyone could advise what the best way forward is? Thanks.

Here is the Registry entry relevent to the Blocks for 24H2.
This is my Laptop from about 1 month ago. Shows 2 GatedBlockIds.

If there are Blocks showing then just wait, it maybe months.
I would not force it, that could lead to sabotaging your machine for no reason.

As of a few days ago both Blocks have been removed and now I get the offer of 24H2.
However, still not doing 24H2 until more information on the blocks which I thought was due to specific installed Apps.
It also has Intel Smart Sound Technology but a non affected driver version.

Could it be that MS has decided not to give the update to computers with that Smart Sound issue yet/withdrawn the update for now? While they are sorting it out. It is described as a known issue 6 days ago, leading to blue screening. I'd probably want to hold off.

Thanks for replying. I'll check the Reg entry when I'm next using that pc. 24H2 may have been pulled from some Smart Sound devices at the last cumulative update. I updated our other 3 devices to 24H2 and so far no problems other than a pink Macrium Boot menu which I can get round. I won't force 24H2 on our last pc. I used Windows Update to update 2 pcs, but it stalled on our other one so I used Install Assistant and all ok, except for trying to install the Cumulative Update for 24H2 which seemed to stick at 8% download. I see there are other reports of problems with this Update. Thanks again.

Hi. I checked again today for 24H2 but nothing. I looked at the Registry to see what is showing.

I'm not sure how to decipher this as to whether or not a block was put in place during the January Cumulative Update and would be grateful for any info. Thanks Mitch.

Also look here to see if anything else like CPU, TPM or something else is the block.
All of the blockedby should have 0.

In theory with those Blocks removed you should get an offer of 24H2, I certainly did, previously saved the image in post #6 to try and identify what the blocks were for.
The assumptions made may well have been wrong as the Apps have not changed version number nor any files updated as far as I can tell.
I'm still not updating to 24H2 yet, more research required.

Since 24H2 offer disappeared after a Cumulative Update I'll wait and see if it shows again after the next one. I went ahead and updated 3 pcs and everything seems ok so far. I just wanted to understand if there was a reason I shouldn't Update this pc such as a MS block. Thanks for your help.

Hi @zbook . None of the known issues apply to this device. The only one which may have been a problem is the Smart Sound driver. MS says the affected driver is 10.29(30).0.5152. The installed driver is 10.29.0.7799. As I said, 24H2 disappeared after the last CU so I'm not sure what's going on. Thanks.

Checked for updates today and 24H2 has reappeard and been installed. No issues. Seems like this offer comes and goes for no apparent reason. Anyway job done. Thanks for all the help. Mitch.
