Monitor seems to go off and back on again, like I switched it off and back on.

I have checked and have all the updates. I have also done an update driver for the display. I have two monitors, new one an Asus is the one with the issue plugged in to HDMI on the graphics card. The old an Acer is plugged in to the Monitor Display port also on the graphics card, this monitor has no issues at all.

Every few hours the new monitor goes black, like it was switched off and back on again. There are no other performance issues that I can see with the PC. Both monitors are set to 1920 x 1080 x 60 hertz

Can anyone suggest what I can do to fix this ?

TIA

Does the new one have a setting to auto dim after a certain idle time or does it go dark while in use? I had an ASUS monitor that would do this when the system was idle and the screen saver was crashed. This was W10 though and it was connected to an NVIDIA card.

No it does not go dim, it completely goes off, but power light still shows. No screensaver used.

I may have a reason for your display blanking out. I had/have a similar problem with my system that uses a AMD Radeon Pro WX2100 video card. Each quarter I manually update the driver for this card as it becomes available from the AMD support website. I load the latest driver and everything goes well until a day or so after it's installed my two video displays go blank for a few seconds and reappear. I suspected a driver issue and even then it took me some ime to figure out that Windows 11 was automatically reverting to the previous driver that I thought I had replaced. I checked the device manager properties for the display adapter and sure enough the old driver had reappered, Windows had reverted to the old driver. Apparently, as part of the driver update process Windows keeps the old driver in case you want/need to revert due to a newly loaded driver problem. In theory this is actually a good idea but in practice it can cause problems like mine and possibly yours. To check this, go to the device manager and look at the display driver properties for the display in question, especially if you are using different drivers for different displays. If the driver for the display in question is a stock Microsoft display driver, or a driver you previously had, Windows may be replacing it automatically. I think it checks the loaded drivers for your display card against a database which is probably behind the manufacturers latest drivers list.

To fix this, go to properties for the display adapter and click the driver tab and check the driver version and date and see if that is actually the latest driver you loaded. If it is not, and Windows has actually reverted to an earlier driver you can click on "Roll back Driver" and it will replace the driver with an older driver (which is actually the one you manually updated). As part of this process, it will ask you the reason why you are reverting to an older driver. You should probably select "For another reason", and fill in "Windows replaced new driver with an older one", or something like that. Windows will want to reboot to load the selected driver.

It takes some time (in my case, almost a year) for the windows driver database to get updated drivers from the manufacturer, so this may happen again if you manually update video drivers. If it does, just revert back to the (newest) driver and this blanking process will go away.

Now, having said all of this, iit may not be the cause of your display blanking, but it something to check.

Hi thanks for all this, it seems it may be the driver. I checked the driver in use and it is a generic microsoft one. Looking at the official website for the manufacture there is no driver for Win 11, only everything below. Can I use the Win 10 driver ?

Yes, you can use the Windows 10 64-bit or earlier driver in Windows 11. Regarding mixed driver versions, I once could not upgrade to Windows 10 v1903 because I should have a minimum version of nVidia drivers. I already had updated my drivers, but for some reason not all components (individual .dll files) were of the latest version. To remedy this, I had to download and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) which uninstalled the graphics driver, removing all traces in Registry and files. I then installed the latest version again and this time all components had the latest version since there was no older trace left. I could then proceed with the upgrade to Windows 10 v1903 or newer.

So in your case, download and run DDU to completely remove all traces of the graphics drivers, restart and install latest version again. I would also disconnect from the internet to prevent Windows Updating doing its stuff while I install the official drivers.

I was having the same quick blackouts on my monitor and then it got to freezing my screen so I had to shut down and restart. I uninstalled the Nvidia latest driver and installed Dec.2022 version. It seemed to work. I left it for a while and then updated to Nvidia ver. 31.0.15.3141 and (knock on wood) I have not had any issues since.
Hope you get your issue fixed soon.
cheers

Yes,I have read in another thread that the previous version had some issues, while the latest doesn't. I have recently updated to the latest, I haven't seen any issues yet.

I have this external Lenovo USB-C touch display connected to my AMD laptop. When on desktop, with pitch black background and just moving the white mouse cursor on the screen, it blanks. This does not happen when display is full of graphic content.

Just thought I'd share this as it's something odd and shares similar symptoms as you have.
